Monster Hunter Wilds WIKI

Reading monster behavior

Recognize a monster’s tells, spacing, and recovery before committing to a long attack.

THE GUIDE

What to do and why

Identify the dangerous tell

For the first few exchanges, watch the head and body rather than your damage numbers. Notice what precedes a charge, sweep, or area attack and where the monster ends up afterward. This creates a repeatable place to stand.

Punish the recovery

Keep your weapon drawn only when its movement still lets you respond. Use a short attack after a move with clear recovery, then return to a safe angle. As you learn the pattern, lengthen the punish only where the monster consistently leaves time.

Use wounds as a planned opening

Focus Mode makes wounds easier to target. Before committing, check whether the monster is in a state where you can stay close enough to follow through. A missed wound attack is less useful than preserving position for the next opening.
