About Zortch

Zortch is a single‑player first‑person shooter set in a sci‑fi world that blends horror and comedy. The protagonist, Zortch Maxinum, is captured by alien scammers and must escape their planet with help from a mysterious voice.

The game runs on a custom engine that works on low‑spec PCs and offers combat‑heavy gameplay, nine guns plus kicking, fifteen levels, five boss encounters, and a variety of visual and power‑up options.

01 / THE GUIDE

Core Gameplay

Players move through fifteen levels while confronting over thirty enemy types, ranging from giant green brain‑sucking aliens to rocket‑launcher lizards and pudding‑like amoeboid guards. Combat is the central activity, using guns, kicking, and explosive tools to survive.

A mysterious voice provides guidance, but progression is tied to reaching each level’s exit. Power‑ups such as portable medkits and invisibility appear during play, offering temporary advantages.

  • Observe enemy movement before engaging to reduce damage taken.
  • Use cover where available to limit exposure to enemy fire.

02 / THE GUIDE

Difficulty Modes

Six difficulty settings span from very easy to extreme. The settings let players choose how challenging combat feels, from a very gentle experience up to extreme play.

The spread of settings gives players a way to scale the experience to their comfort level.

  • Begin on a lower setting to learn level layouts.
  • Raise the difficulty after you are comfortable with basic combat.

Weapon Arsenal

The game provides nine guns, including a grenade launcher, TNT, tripmine, plasma pistol, double‑barreled shotgun, and a living lightning gun, plus a kicking attack. The arsenal spans explosive devices, energy weapons and conventional firearms.

Weapons can be combined with power‑ups like medkits or invisibility, allowing players to adapt to different enemy types such as spider mines or raptors.

  • Experiment with each weapon to see how it feels against various foes.
  • Consider saving high‑damage weapons for tougher enemy groups.

04 / THE GUIDE

Levels and Bosses

There are fifteen levels, five of which end with boss encounters. Bosses include a 20‑foot flatworm cyborg bounty hunter among the game's five boss encounters.

Regular levels feature a mix of enemy types, from giant green brain‑sucking aliens to spider mines and rocket‑launcher lizards, creating varied combat scenarios.

  • Watch boss attack cues to time dodges.
  • Reserve powerful weapons for boss rooms when possible.

Visual and Power‑up Options

Players can adjust the field of view with an FOV slider and enable Letterbox mode for a cinematic look. A custom violence mode lets blood be swapped for confetti or ketchup.

Power‑ups include a portable medkit for health recovery and an invisibility item that temporarily hides the player from enemies.

  • Use the FOV slider to increase peripheral awareness.
  • Try the confetti blood setting if you prefer a lighter visual tone.
