About Warhounds
Warhounds is a turn‑based tactical and strategy game that puts you in command of a mercenary squad operating in an alternate‑future Africa. Inspired by classic XCOM and Jagged Alliance titles, the game emphasizes planning lines of fire, flanking, and high‑ground advantage while minimizing reliance on random chance.
Between missions you run a base: recruit operators, upgrade gear, manage finances, medical supplies and downtime, and build relationships with allied factions. Your strategic choices affect which contracts, equipment and allies become available, shaping the war’s outcome beyond 2035.
01 / THE GUIDE
Turn‑Based Tactical Combat
Combat unfolds in turns where you calculate lines of fire, flank angles and vertical positioning. Hitting an enemy from the flank or at close range guarantees a 100 % hit chance, removing point‑blank misses and making planning decisive.
You can deploy drones, combat scanners, smoke and optical camouflage to shape the battlefield. Cover is destructible, and the game stresses that each turn’s result depends more on your tactics than on RNG.
- Test high‑ground positions early to see how vertical advantage changes line‑of‑fire options.
- Use a drone to scout before committing a flank to verify enemy cover status.

Squad Composition and Classes
You assemble a team from five classes—Assault, Specialist, Sniper, Machine Gunner and Grenadier—each offering distinct tactical options. Operators also have personality, adding character to the squad you hire.
Gear selection is tied to class roles, allowing you to equip weapons and tools that complement your tactical plan while avoiding busywork in loadout management.
- Pair a Sniper with a Specialist to combine long‑range scouting and support abilities.
- Balance a Machine Gunner’s firepower with an Assault’s mobility for flexible assaults.

Base Management Between Missions
Between contracts you run a base where you recruit mercenaries, upgrade equipment and handle logistics such as finances, medical supplies and downtime. These decisions influence future mission access and gear availability.
The base also serves as a hub for gathering intel and planning covert operations, linking strategic choices to the tactical outcomes of each mission.
- Prioritize upgrades that improve survivability before expanding the roster.
- Maintain a healthy budget to keep a steady flow of contracts.

Allied Factions and Consequences
You can choose allied factions, build relationships and gather intel, which directly influences the missions you receive. Your actions determine access to gear, contracts and the overall narrative outcome for Africa beyond 2035.
These relationships affect the strategic landscape rather than providing specific item rewards, making diplomatic choices as important as combat tactics.
- Invest early in a single faction to secure a consistent stream of missions.
- Diversify alliances if you prefer varied intel and mission types.

Customizable Play Pace and Difficulty
A typical mission lasts 25‑40 minutes, but you can extend sessions for deeper tactical challenges. Difficulty is adjustable, letting you aim for a brutal tactical hell or a lighter, relaxing run.
Features like “Save Anytime” and “Playable without Timed Input” support both quick and marathon playstyles, while full controller support provides comfort across input methods.
- Start on a moderate difficulty to learn mechanics before increasing the challenge.
- Use the save‑anytime feature to experiment with risky tactics without penalty.
