About VTOL VR
VTOL VR is a near‑future combat flight simulator designed exclusively for virtual reality. Players sit in fully interactive cockpits, using tracked controllers to manipulate sticks, throttles, switches and even an eject handle. The game offers a range of missions—from story‑driven campaigns to free‑flight tutorials—testing piloting skill, situational awareness and combat tactics.
Beyond single‑player, VTOL VR supports online multiplayer, letting pilots cooperate or compete in PvP and co‑op scenarios. A built‑in mission and map editor, plus Steam Workshop integration, let the community create and share custom content, extending replayability without additional hardware.
01 / THE GUIDE
Interactive Cockpit Controls
The cockpit is fully manipulable with VR tracked controllers; you can reach out to flip switches, press buttons, and move the stick and throttle just as in a real jet. This hands‑on approach extends to emergency actions like pulling the eject handle.
All vehicle systems—heads‑up display, targeting pod, radar, IR flares and chaff—are accessible through the same physical interactions, reinforcing immersion and requiring precise hand movements.
- Practice reaching for frequently used controls to build muscle memory.
- Use the head‑mounted cueing system to keep your eyes on targets while your hands manage the cockpit.

Mission and Map Editor
VTOL VR includes a custom mission/campaign editor and a map editor, allowing players to design their own scenarios and environments. Created content can be shared through Steam Workshop, enabling a community‑driven library of missions and maps.
These tools are built into the game, requiring no external software, and support both single‑player and multiplayer experiences, expanding the game's longevity through user‑generated content.
- Start with the tutorial missions to understand basic editor functions.
- Test your custom missions in single‑player before publishing them.

Online Multiplayer Modes
Players can join online sessions for PvP or PvE missions, cooperating with AI wingmen or competing against other pilots. The game supports both co‑op and competitive play, with AI friends and foes such as tanks, artillery, ships and planes.
Communication is handled via a radio system that works with Windows 10 voice recognition, allowing coordination with wingmen, ATC, AWACS and ground crew during multiplayer engagements.
- Use the radio system to request support or share target information.
- Coordinate with AI wingmen to cover multiple threat vectors.

Advanced Flight Operations
The game features realistic vehicle physics for lift, weight, thrust and drag, enabling complex tasks such as vertical landings, carrier catapult takeoffs, arrested landings, and aerial refueling. Ground‑based refueling and rearmament are also supported.
These operations demand precise control inputs and situational awareness, mirroring real‑world VTOL/STOL procedures within the VR environment.
- Practice carrier landings in training scenarios before attempting live missions.
- Maintain proper alignment during aerial refueling to avoid fuel loss.

Aircraft and Loadout Options
Players can pilot several aircraft, including the AV‑42C Tilt‑jet, F/A‑26 Fighter/Attack Jet and the stealth F‑45A STOVL jet. Each platform supports interchangeable equipment such as guns, rockets, missiles and bombs.
Vehicle systems like HUD, targeting pods and counter‑measures are realistic, and the head‑mounted cueing system assists with targeting heat‑seekers and gimballed cannons.
- Select loadouts that match mission objectives—use missiles for air targets, bombs for ground strikes.
- Utilize IR flares and chaff when facing heat‑seeking threats.
