About Void Bastards
Void Bastards mixes first‑person shooting with strategic decision‑making. You command a crew of prisoners, choosing routes, tactics and which ship systems to exploit as you explore derelict vessels in the Sargasso Nebula.
The single‑player campaign lasts 12‑15 hours and continues across an endless roster of prisoners, each with unique traits. Crafting progress persists between prisoners, and you also pilot a tiny escape pod to flee nebular hazards.
01 / THE GUIDE
Mission Planning
Before boarding a derelict ship you review its layout, hazards and enemy presence. The brief lets you note terminals and systems that could be useful later.
During the mission you decide whether to detour for power, assault a security module or avoid combat, shaping each encounter based on the information gathered.
- Compare listed hazards with your current supplies before committing to a detour.
- Note which terminals could restore power or disable defenses so you can plan around them.

Ship Exploration
Exploring a ship requires careful movement through corridors while searching for supplies. Enemies and environmental dangers appear as you progress.
Manipulating control systems lets you alter the environment, such as restoring power or disabling defenses, which directly influences combat opportunities.
- Balance thorough searching with the risk of enemy encounters.
- Use discovered control panels to restore power or disable defenses when it suits your situation.

Resource Management
Food, fuel and crafting materials are scarce, so you must scavenge and allocate them wisely. Crafted items like the robo‑kitty or clusterflak arise from these supplies.
All crafting progress is retained when a prisoner dies, allowing you to build on previous work rather than starting over.
- Prioritize crafting tools that address immediate threats.
- Track fuel consumption to ensure you can still navigate the nebula.
05 / THE GUIDE
Prisoner Rotation
The campaign features an endless supply of prisoners, each with distinct traits. When a prisoner dies, the next steps forward, continuing the fight.
Crafting progress carries over between prisoners, so the overall advancement of tools and weapons is preserved despite individual losses.
- Consider each prisoner’s trait when planning combat approaches.
- Remember that crafting progress carries over, so focus on long‑term upgrades.
