About Valheim
Valheim links exploration, food, construction, sailing, and boss progression in a procedurally generated Viking afterlife. Better equipment helps, but preparation determines whether that equipment reaches the next fight safely. A rested character with appropriate food and a secure recovery route can take on a challenge very differently from the same character arriving wet and exhausted.
Use this wiki as a preparation sequence: establish a sheltered workshop, learn what your food provides, practice defense, and scout before transporting valuable supplies. Solo and cooperative worlds both reward those habits. World settings can change resource and transport rules, so inspect the settings of the world you actually play before following a route designed for someone else's server.
01 / THE GUIDE
Build a first outpost that supports recovery
Your first useful base needs shelter, a functioning crafting area, storage, and a dependable spawn arrangement. Build for access rather than size. Place materials near the workbench, keep the fire safe and ventilated, and make room to repair and prepare without shuffling every chest after each expedition.
Repairing equipment is a reason to return home before a tool breaks in a dangerous biome. Improve the workshop as recipes and resources become available, then add specialized stations near the materials they consume. A comfortable, organized stop makes it easier to begin the next trip rested and supplied instead of leaving with an incomplete repair or empty food stack.
- Check your spawn point after establishing a new outpost.
- Provide a safe smoke exit for indoor fires.
- Repair before every long scouting or sailing trip.
- Keep a recovery kit separate from normal expedition supplies.

Food and stamina: choose for the task ahead
Food affects your available health and stamina. You do not need to eat simply to prevent starvation, but travelling or fighting without food removes much of your safety margin. Different meals emphasize different attributes, which makes food selection part of the loadout rather than a single best item to use everywhere.
Choose meals around the activity: a difficult climb or long run asks different questions from a boss attempt where surviving a hit matters most. Check remaining food duration before committing to a remote route. Keep farming, hunting, and cooking connected to your expedition plans so the next important attempt does not begin by searching every chest for ingredients.
- Eat before entering a dangerous biome.
- Check food duration before summoning a boss.
- Protect stamina for blocking, dodging, and retreating.
- Store prepared meals separately from raw ingredients.

Combat: preserve stamina for the enemy response
Attacking, blocking, dodging, and movement compete for stamina. Emptying the bar during an opening can leave you unable to answer the next attack. Learn an enemy's approach and recovery with short exchanges, then extend the sequence only when you recognize the opening and have room to retreat.
Shields and weapon styles provide different defensive expectations, and the surrounding terrain matters. Avoid learning a new opponent while standing in water, among several enemies, or at the edge of a cliff. Draw threats toward a controlled space, manage the group size, and repair a failed approach before spending more resources on another identical attempt.
- Practice defense on a familiar enemy before escalating.
- Leave stamina after your attack sequence.
- Fight on ground that lets you retreat and turn.
- Separate enemies when a group overwhelms your recovery.

Biomes and bosses: scout before moving the workshop
Biomes supply their own resources and threats, and Forsaken bosses connect important stages of progression. A newly discovered region is an information problem first: identify useful resources, likely enemies, and a practical landing or retreat route before loading a boat with everything you own.
Build a small staging outpost when the distance justifies it. Stock food and recovery equipment, then explore far enough to identify the next material goal. Boss preparation should include the arena, the trip back after a death, and the supplies needed for a second attempt. Reaching the summon point with good gear is only one part of being ready.
- Mark useful landing points and resource deposits.
- Scout a new biome with expendable supplies first.
- Store a spare weapon and food near your recovery route.
- Choose a material goal before beginning a long gathering trip.

Travel, portals, and cooperative logistics
Long-distance travel becomes easier when outposts, boats, and portals serve different jobs. Portal transport restrictions depend on the material, portal technology, and world settings, so check the actual transport message before planning a mining route around an assumed shortcut. Keep enough basic supplies to establish or repair a return connection.
In cooperation, divide the preparation work clearly. One player can scout while another cooks or prepares the dock, but everyone should know the destination and recovery plan. Before a voyage, agree on cargo priorities and where the team will regroup if separated. A short conversation prevents valuable metal, food, or building materials from ending up on the wrong shore.
- Verify portal compatibility before transporting ore.
- Name destinations consistently so the group can find them.
- Bring repair and outpost materials on long voyages.
- Confirm wind, landing options, and cargo before departure.
