About Trine 2: Complete Story
Trine 2: Complete Story lets you control three distinct heroes—wizard, knight, and thief—each with unique magical or physical tools. You can switch between them at any moment, whether playing solo or with friends. The campaign runs for one to three players, supporting both online and local co‑op, and the story plays the same way regardless of mode.
Across twenty physics‑based levels you solve puzzles, battle enemies, and explore varied settings such as a sea‑side castle, a burning desert, icy mountains, and even the interior of a giant worm. The game also includes the Goblin Menace expansion, a soundtrack by Ari Pulkkinen, and a level editor for custom content.
01 / THE GUIDE
Hero abilities
Each character offers a different way to interact with the world. The wizard conjures boxes and planks, the knight charges through obstacles, and the thief uses rope and arrows. Switching is unrestricted, letting you adapt to any puzzle or combat situation.
These powers combine for creative solutions, like freezing goblins with frost arrows or trapping enemies in magically created boxes. The design encourages experimenting with each hero’s toolkit to find multiple answers to a challenge.
- Try pairing the wizard’s boxes with the thief’s rope for vertical traversal.
- Use the knight’s charge to break through weak walls before switching.

Co‑op modes
The game supports 1–3 players in both online and local co‑op, with shared or split‑screen options. The entire campaign is playable in any configuration, so friends can join or leave without breaking progress.
Co‑op encourages each player to focus on a different hero, allowing simultaneous use of distinct abilities. This can speed up puzzle solving or create new strategies that a solo player might not discover.
- Assign each player a dedicated hero to maximize simultaneous actions.
- Communicate which hero you plan to switch to for coordinated moves.

Level variety
Twenty levels span diverse environments, from a castle by a treacherous sea to a burning desert, snowy ice mountains, and the interior of a giant worm. Each setting introduces new hazards, enemies, and visual themes.
The varied backdrops keep gameplay fresh and require different uses of the heroes’ tools, such as using the Kitesail Shield to glide over chasms in open sky sections or slowing time with a gravity bubble in tighter spaces.
- Observe environmental cues; some hazards hint at the best hero to use.
- Experiment with the gravity bubble in tight puzzles for extra breathing room.

Puzzle design
Puzzles are physics‑based and often have more than one solution, encouraging creative thinking. Players can combine abilities—like levitating a monster then trapping it—to overcome obstacles.
The design rewards experimentation, as many challenges can be solved by different hero pairings or by using the environment, such as freezing enemies or constructing temporary platforms.
- Test multiple hero combos before settling on a single solution.
- Look for objects that can be moved or altered by any hero’s ability.

Audio and level editor
The soundtrack, composed by Ari Pulkkinen, provides an award‑winning musical backdrop that enhances the fairytale atmosphere. Additionally, the game includes a level editor, allowing players to craft and share their own puzzles.
Both features are integrated into the Steam ecosystem, supporting achievements, cloud saves, and community sharing, which extend replayability beyond the main campaign.
- Listen for musical cues that may hint at hidden secrets.
- Use the level editor to practice designing puzzles that use all three heroes.
