About TRAMCITY HAKODATE
TRAMCITY HAKODATE puts you behind the controls of a tram that runs on a portion of Hakodate’s historic city line. You follow traffic‑signal cycles, transport passengers, and hear authentic tram sounds recorded on location.
The simulation was created with permission from Hakodate City Tram staff, who supplied data on tram size, appearance, behavior, and speed limits. Only a segment of the 10.9 km line is currently drivable, with additional routes and vehicles planned for future updates.
01 / THE GUIDE
Game Setting
The game is set on the Hakodate City Tram in Hakodate, Hokkaido, and lets players act as tram operators. Buildings and stops along the line are individually modeled, reflecting the real environment based on data supplied by the tram authority.
The developer grew up in Hakodate and used that familiarity to capture the line’s uniqueness, aiming to move beyond typical railway simulators while staying true to the official specifications.
- Compare in‑game stop designs with real‑world photos to see how closely they match.
- Notice that the playable segment does not cover the entire 10.9 km line.

Sound Design
All tram sounds were recorded from actual vehicles, including ambient noises while walking the line and recordings taken near the bogies under staff supervision. These recordings form the core audio experience of the simulation.
In‑tram announcements use the voices of Jō Hibiki, Lemi Duncan and Naomi Ueda, while the driver’s voice is provided by Jō Hibiki, Takahiro Nozuki, Masumi Toyooka, Sayumi Yamamoto and Mr.M.
- Turn up the volume to hear subtle bogie sounds that differ from typical game effects.
- Listen for the three announcement voices to identify who is speaking at each stop.

Traffic Signals
Signal cycles are based on local measurements taken from the real tram line. Each time the game starts, the cycle’s start time is shifted, so the sequence of red, amber and green lights changes between sessions.
This dynamic timing mirrors real‑world traffic flow on the Hakodate line, requiring players to adapt their driving patterns to the altered light sequences each playthrough.
- Observe the first few signal changes after starting a session to gauge the new cycle.
- Plan stops around longer red phases to keep passenger flow smooth.

Drivable Routes
As of September 2025, the playable segment runs between Hakodate‑Dock‑Mae / Yachigashira and Chiyogadai. This covers only part of the full 10.9 km line, covering the drivable stretch documented for the game.
Future extensions are planned, meaning the game’s architecture can accommodate additional track sections and stations when they are released.
- Map the available segment to understand where the line begins and ends.
- Watch for update announcements that mention new route extensions.

Tram Types
Two tram models are currently drivable: the modern type 8000 and the vintage type 3000. Both reflect the actual fleet used on the Hakodate City Tram and are fully operable in the simulation.
The developers have indicated that more tram types will be added in future updates, expanding the variety of vehicles players can experience.
- Switch between the 8000 and 3000 to compare visual design and interior layout.
- Note any differences in exterior details that may affect how the tram appears in the cityscape.
