About Train World
Train World is a railroad simulation where you design a railway network that endures across centuries. You begin with basic steam locomotives and can later replace them with multi‑engine haulers while moving passengers and thousands of tonnes of cargo.
The game offers maps from 33 × 33 km up to 197 × 197 km, a research tree covering three historical periods, and a dynamic economy with more than 150 cargo types. Time acceleration, top‑down and detailed views, and an achievements system give extra direction.

Research System
Train World includes a research tree that spans three distinct time periods, each with its own visual style, locomotives and infrastructure. Advancing through the tree unlocks newer train technologies that replace earlier steam engines.
The three periods reflect historical development, so each era introduces visual changes and new equipment that affect how you expand your network.
- Compare early‑era and later‑era locomotives to see how capacity and speed differ.
- Align research choices with the cargo demands of regions you plan to open.

Map Size and Regions
Maps range from 33 × 33 km (20 × 20 mi) to 197 × 197 km (120 × 120 mi), providing ample space for railway design. Each map is divided into regions that unlock as you expand your lines.
New regions bring different biomes, relief types and local industries, adding strategic considerations for station placement and cargo routing.
- Start on a smaller map to master basic routing before tackling larger regions.
- Use the high‑level view to plan connections between regional hubs.

Cargo and Passenger Systems
A dynamic economy features over 150 unique cargo types and a separate passenger system, each requiring dedicated stations and infrastructure. Transporting these goods generates income for further expansion.
Cargo types are linked to regional industries, so opening a new region often introduces fresh freight opportunities, while the passenger system runs through its own dedicated stations and infrastructure.
- Balance cargo and passenger routes to keep multiple income streams active.
- Watch which cargo appears after unlocking a region to prioritize relevant tracks.

Construction Tools
Multiple bridge, tunnel and track variants let you adapt to varied terrain, allowing trains to cross rivers, mountains or other obstacles. These structures shape a network that fits the map’s relief.
You can switch between a classical top‑down view and a more detailed zoomed‑in view, which aids precise placement of complex structures.
- Test different bridge types to find the most space‑efficient solution.
- Use the detailed view when aligning tracks through tight tunnel sections.

Quality‑of‑Life Features
Train World offers time acceleration for impatient players and an achievements system that provides optional objectives, giving direction without forcing a specific playstyle.
Steam integration includes Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing, listed as supported platform features.
- Activate time acceleration during long freight runs to keep momentum.
- Review the achievements list for optional goals that can guide early decisions.
