About Total War: WARHAMMER
Total War: WARHAMMER merges a turn‑based empire‑building campaign with massive real‑time battles set in the Warhammer Fantasy world. Players choose one of five distinct peoples, each offering its own characters, units and strategic approach, and can lead legendary leaders through narrative quests.
Since its 2016 launch the title has received free updates that added a fifth faction, new legendary leaders, additional units, fresh Lores of Magic and over thirty bespoke battle maps, expanding both single‑player and multiplayer content for many hours of play.

Factions and Their Playstyles
The Old World campaign includes Bretonnia, the Empire, the Dwarven holds, the undead Vampire Counts and the Greenskin hordes. Each group supplies a unique roster of units, campaign mechanics and overall tactical flavor, shaping how the turn‑based map is approached.
Choosing a faction determines the composition of armies you can field in real‑time clashes and influences the strategic options available during province management, such as recruitment limits, special abilities and diplomatic relations.
- Begin with a short playthrough of each faction to see how their unit mix affects early expansion.
- Focus on mastering the signature units of a chosen faction before diversifying your army.

Legendary Leaders and Quest Chains
Players may command twelve iconic warlords drawn from the Warhammer lore, each equipped with distinctive weapons, armor, mounts and magical abilities. These leaders act as the focal point of both the campaign map and battlefield command.
Each leader’s personal story unfolds through a dedicated quest chain that rewards powerful items and abilities, encouraging players to pursue narrative objectives alongside territorial conquest.
- Prioritize completing a leader’s quests early to unlock their strongest gear.
- Balance quest progression with province development to avoid falling behind in resources.

Magic Storms and Flying Units
For the first time in the series, players can summon magical storms that melt armor, sap morale or bolster allies, adding a new layer of tactical depth to open battles and sieges.
The game also introduces aerial creatures such as dragons, wyverns and griffons, allowing commanders to gain air superiority, flank enemy formations or strike isolated targets from above.
- Use a magical storm to weaken heavily armored units before a charge.
- Deploy flying units to attack rear lines or disrupt enemy supply routes.
