Cross‑Platform Multiplayer
For the first time in the series, players can battle friends across Windows, macOS, and Linux. Cross‑platform multiplayer lets friends compete directly regardless of operating system.

New Merchant Agent
A new agent type, the Merchant, can be dispatched worldwide to forge trade links, access resources, and purchase rival assets. This expands economic strategy beyond traditional taxation and conquest.
Merchants increase income and allow players to assert economic power, adding a layer of diplomatic and financial maneuvering to the campaign.
- Deploy merchants early to secure lucrative trade routes before war erupts.
- Compare merchant‑generated income against tax revenue to balance budgets.

Expanded Faction Roster
Players can now expand their armies with 16 additional factions that were previously locked, bringing the total playable nations to 38. These newly unlocked factions broaden the range of playable nations.
The larger roster offers more strategic diversity, allowing varied approaches to diplomacy, warfare, and empire building across the campaign map.
- Experiment with a newly unlocked faction to discover its unique unit composition.
- Balance faction strengths against neighboring powers to avoid early overextension.
