About Tokyo Train 4
Tokyo Train 4 lets players act as railway commanders, moving passengers during Japan’s evening rush hour. You choose from more than 50 routes, including separate lines for Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka, and aim to maximise operating profit. The game’s profit formula combines variable fares, ride time, passenger count and a fixed departure cost.
The interface is simple: depart trains at the right moment, watch the timetable update, and compare results with other fans. No ads or in‑app purchases are present, and each session lasts under three minutes, making it suitable for casual play on older PCs.
01 / THE GUIDE
Operating profit calculation
The game calculates profit using five components: variable fare earned when passengers alight, ride time displayed above the train, passenger numbers shown at each station, a fixed departure cost, and the resulting operating profit. Variable fare decreases over time and rises for stations farther to the right.
Ride time is deducted from the fare, so faster trips improve earnings. The departure cost appears under the departure button and is subtracted each time a train leaves. The final operating profit is the primary goal displayed after each run.
- Observe which stations yield higher fares and prioritize quick trips to those stops.
- Watch the departure cost for each line; lower costs can offset slower ride times.

Local, express and Shinkansen trains
Players can operate up to five train types, including local, express and Shinkansen services. Express trains and Shinkansen charge an additional "express charge" on top of the regular fare, making them important for profit maximisation.
The game simplifies operation: you only need to press the departure button at the optimal moment. No car‑count management is required, and many passengers are already waiting at terminal stations.
- Use express trains on longer routes to benefit from the extra charge.
- Combine local and express services via the redesigned transfer system for shorter ride times.

Route selection and difficulty adjustment
Tokyo Train 4 offers over 50 railway routes, each with its own terminal and commuter stations. Players can select a route based on personal preference, such as Tokyo or Osaka lines. Difficulty can be altered at the information centre, changing the target profit needed to clear a route.
Even complex routes remain easy to operate because the core mechanic stays simple: depart trains at the right time. This allows casual players to enjoy challenging maps without steep learning curves.
- Start with a familiar city route to learn fare patterns before tackling harder lines.
- Raise the target profit gradually to build confidence without overwhelming the system.

Timetable results display
After each run, the game presents a timetable showing the results of your operations. This visual summary lets players compare their efficiency across multiple attempts and share results with railway enthusiasts.
The timetable is a new feature of this game, letting players enjoy viewing their operation results alongside pursuing profits.
- Review the timetable to spot patterns where ride time consistently spikes.
- Share your timetable with friends to discuss alternative departure strategies.

Low storage impact and short sessions
The game occupies about 130 MB, keeping storage demands modest. It runs without heavy processing, making it suitable for older computer models. Each individual game lasts less than three minutes, encouraging quick, casual play sessions.
Because there are no ads or in‑app purchases, players can focus solely on the simulation and share their results without interruptions.
- Use short play sessions to experiment with different train mixes without fatigue.
- Install on low‑spec hardware to test performance before exploring more routes.
