About Toasterball
Toasterball is a local multiplayer sports game where each player controls a toaster that launches toast toward one of two goals. The core control is a simple press‑and‑release of one of two buttons, with longer presses sending the toast higher and also making the toaster jump.
Matches are spiced up by a pool of 24 random gameplay variants that change ball physics, add hazards, or modify the arena after every goal. The game offers five distinct arenas, AI teammates, and a custom mode for tailoring variants and rules.
01 / THE GUIDE
Gameplay Mechanics
Each toaster has two buttons; a short press launches a toast, and the longer the press, the higher the toast flies. Every launch also causes the toaster to jump, letting players move vertically and push opponents.
Beyond the basic press, players can discover advanced moves such as double‑jumping and the “TURBOFLIP”. These techniques emerge from experimenting with press length and timing, adding depth to the otherwise easy‑to‑learn control scheme.
- Vary press duration in practice matches to feel the range of toast heights.
- Use the jump that occurs on each launch to position yourself defensively.

Random Variants
After every goal the game automatically selects a random gameplay variant. Variants alter ball physics, introduce lava pits, portals, moving platforms, explosions, and other effects, ensuring each goal changes the match dynamics.
There are 24 distinct variants, and they can be combined with modifiers such as toaster size or toast count. This combination creates many possible scenarios, preventing any two matches from feeling identical.
- Note which variant appears after each goal so you know what is active.
- Adjust your launch power quickly when a new physics rule appears.

Iconic Arenas
The game features five unique arenas: Toasterball Arena, Panachado Forest, Breadington Square, Tartembourg Castle, and Porto Rada beach. Each arena has its own visual theme and layout that influences how variants play out.
Arena themes range from mysterious jungles to warm beaches, and getting to know each arena helps players anticipate toast trajectories. Knowing the basic shape of each arena helps players anticipate toast trajectories.
- Spend a few rounds in each arena without variants to learn wall angles.
- Consider arena size when choosing a launch height for long shots.

AI Toasters
Three AI characters—Beep, Boop, and Bleep‑Bloop—are provided to fill an empty slot in a local match. Adding an AI toaster lets a game proceed even when fewer than four human players are present.
The AI toasters act as standard teammates or opponents, offering a baseline challenge for solo practice or mixed‑team sessions without requiring additional friends.
- Start a match with a single AI to focus on mastering button timing.
- Mix AI with human players to keep the match lively when a friend drops out.

Custom Mode
Custom mode lets players select any combination of variants and arenas, set the order of selection, and modify basic rules such as goal‑door durability, toaster damage tolerance, or points needed to win.
Additional options include playing with miniature toasters or removing toasts entirely, allowing players to craft rule‑sets that differ markedly from the standard match structure.
- Create a rule set that limits points to test fast‑paced play.
- Turn off toasts if you want to focus solely on movement and jumps.
