About The Political Process
The Political Process is a turn‑based political simulator that lets you craft a custom politician, run for office, draft legislation, and manage budgets. You can choose any district from all 50 states, tweak over 80 demographic variables, and watch how your decisions ripple through more than 100 societal metrics.
The game features a dynamic world of over 600 procedurally‑generated politicians, primary and general elections at every level, and a President‑only “Dictator Mode” for unrestricted law‑making. Single‑player play is supported with Steam Cloud saves, and the title is available on Windows.
01 / THE GUIDE
Custom Politician Creation
Players begin by designing a politician, selecting party affiliation, name, age, and appearance. Over 40 policy positions let you map a social and fiscal ideology, shaping how the character votes and campaigns. A backstory can be added to give personal motivation, whether as a progressive reformer, libertarian, or moderate. This narrative helps guide strategic choices as you play.
- Compare your chosen policy mix against the district’s default ideology to anticipate voter reactions.
- Use the backstory as a reference when deciding whether to support or oppose controversial bills.

District Selection and Advanced Variables
You may play in any of the 3,000+ counties across the United States, each built from real‑life data. Advanced options let you adjust more than 80 variables such as voter demographics, turnout, poverty rates, and ideology. These settings let you fine‑tune the political landscape, influencing campaign strategy and legislative impact without altering the core simulation engine.
- Start with default district data to gauge baseline challenges before customizing variables.
- Adjust turnout rates to test how voter enthusiasm affects election outcomes.

Running for Political Office
The game offers nine offices from school board to the presidency. Campaign activities include platform creation, door‑knocking, volunteer coordination, fundraising, rallies, polls, and marketing. Success raises name recognition, sways public opinion, and boosts voter turnout. Presidential races require allocating resources across all 50 states, targeting swing states, independent voters, or turnout drives, while also supporting party members in down‑ballot races.
- Balance primary and general election tactics; a strong primary platform may hurt general‑election appeal.
- Consider allocating some resources to non‑target states to help party colleagues win their races.

Legislation and Budget Management
Choose from over 80 legislation types covering taxes, education, health care, crime, and more. Bills move through committees, amendments, and votes, then require executive approval. Passed laws affect more than 100 in‑game metrics, creating complex feedback loops. Political points earned from elections and laws determine committee chairs and party leadership, which in turn let you set hearing priorities and influence budget creation. Budgets use real‑life data for a simplified yet realistic fiscal process.
- Track how a law’s metric changes cascade to anticipate budget pressures.
- Use committee chair positions to prioritize hearings for bills that align with your strategic goals.

Party Leadership and Dictator Mode
As Campaign Committee Chairperson you recruit candidates, set policies, and allocate party resources to maximize seat gains. You can also challenge incumbents in primaries to steer party ideology. Dictator Mode lets you remain president indefinitely, writing laws and balancing the budget without congressional interference, useful for testing policy combos and budget scenarios.
- When recruiting, match candidate policy positions to district demographics for higher win chances.
- Use Dictator Mode to experiment with extreme fiscal policies before applying them in regular play.
