About The Magus Circle
The Magus Circle is a vampire‑survivors style rogue‑lite where spells are cast by drawing sigils. Players can use a mouse, drawing tablet, or touch screen to activate any of the 20 base spells, each of which can be modified by a large pool of upgrades.
The game features six mages, four planetary maps, a manor to explore, and a variety of progression activities such as familiars, potions, and gardening. Accessibility options let you slow or freeze time while drawing, and the game can be saved at any moment.
01 / THE GUIDE
Hand‑drawn Spellcasting
Casting requires you to actively draw an arcane sigil, and the system accepts even crude sketches, meaning artistic skill is not required for the spell to function. This core mechanic is consistent across all input methods.
Supported inputs include mouse, drawing tablet, and touch screen, with a recommendation to use one of these for the best experience. An accessibility mode can slow or freeze time while you draw, giving extra precision when needed.
- Try the time‑slow option if rapid drawing feels difficult.
- Switch between mouse and tablet to discover which feels more natural.

Mage Characters
Six distinct mages are available, each with its own skill tree, abilities, and narrative background. Each mage’s skill tree and abilities can shape how you prioritize spells and upgrades during a run.
All mages share the same drawing mechanic, but their individual skill trees can guide different strategic approaches between mages.
- Read each mage’s backstory to understand their thematic focus.
- Experiment with a few mages early to see which skill tree aligns with your playstyle.

Planetary Maps and Bosses
The game offers four unique planets, each populated by hordes of enemies and ending with a colossal boss encounter. Each planet presents its own setting to fight through.
You can adapt your drawing strategy to each new setting as you battle across the planets.
- Observe enemy patterns on each planet before tackling the boss.
- Save before a boss fight to test different spell combinations.

Progression Systems
Beyond combat, you can unlock familiars, wager winnings, brew potions, and cultivate a garden. These activities expand the range of content you can access as you advance.
The game allows you to save at any time, so you can pause and return to the game.
- Explore each progression option to see which you find most engaging.
- Use the save‑anytime feature before trying a new activity.

Accessibility and Controls
The Magus Circle supports drawing tablets, touch screens, and controllers, with a recommendation to use mouse, tablet, or touch for optimal play. If you use a Microsoft Ink tablet, a specific setting must be disabled for drawings to register.
Accessibility settings include options to slow or freeze time while drawing, which can be useful when playing with a controller or when precision is required.
- Disable Microsoft Ink on compatible tablets if drawings are not recognized.
- Activate time‑freeze when using a controller for steadier input.
