About The Killing Stone
The Killing Stone presents a first‑person narrative set in a remote 17th‑century Arctic mansion. You play as a Maven, investigating Mariken Svangård’s final days while interacting with family members and animal familiars.
Gameplay revolves around a tactile board with magical creature figurines, spell cards, and a Reserve System that lets you hold units for later deployment. Battles are framed as Ritual Contracts against demonic minions, with Boons and Banes that can permanently affect each family member.

Reserve System
The Reserve System allows you to place creature figurines and incantation cards above the battle line, keeping them out of play until you choose to release them. This creates a strategic option to hold powerful pieces for later turns.
When a reserved unit is deployed, it joins the board alongside existing pieces, letting you react to the opponent’s current layout. The system works together with creature placement and spellcasting to shape each round’s outcome.
- Reserve a high‑impact incantation for a turn when the opponent’s board looks weakened.
- Balance offensive and defensive reserves to keep options open each round.

Narrative and Voice Options
Story segments are presented in first‑person with a painterly visual style. You may select either modern English or 17th‑century period English voice‑over, and the choice applies to all spoken dialogue.
Branching dialogues let you probe deeper into the family’s curse, motives, and fears. The written narrative appears in both modern and period prose, while voice‑over remains selectable per language.
- Switch to period English VO for a more atmospheric presentation.
- Explore all dialogue branches to uncover hidden lore about the Svangård curse.

Ritual Contracts and Bargains
Each battle contributes to a Ritual Contract where you negotiate with demonic minions for a family member’s soul. Successful bargains grant powerful Boons, while failed ones impose heavy Banes that permanently affect the character.
You have a limited number of rounds to negotiate before the Ritual ends, and only a few Rituals before the final Reckoning. The demons’ offers shift as you progress, ensuring each playthrough feels distinct.
- Prioritise early Boons to mitigate later Banes.
- Watch for demon bluffs that tempt risky wagers.

Multilingual UI
The game’s UI and text are fully localised into Simplified Chinese, Latin American Spanish, French, and German. All menus, card descriptions, and dialogue options appear in the selected language.
Regardless of UI language, you may still choose modern or period English voice‑over, giving flexibility in how you experience the story across different linguistic settings.
- Try the French UI for a fresh perspective on card names.
- Combine a non‑English UI with English VO to compare translation nuances.
