About The Infected
The Infected is a first‑person, open‑world sandbox where you survive by building bases, farming, raising animals, and managing power and water systems. Hunger, thirst, body temperature, and health are tracked, and dynamic seasons, weather, and a day/night cycle influence those needs.
You may enable the optional AI enemies called “Vambies” for combat or disable them for a pure building experience. The game is in Early Access, so features are still being added and balanced by DigX Studios with community feedback.
01 / THE GUIDE
Base Building and Utilities
Construction lets you create deep bases that incorporate power generators and water distribution. As you gather resources and refine ores, you can expand the layout to support larger operations and keep essential survival metrics stable.
Power and water systems are distinct mechanics that support electricity and hydration for farming, cooking, and heating. Planning the placement of these utilities early can reduce the need for later re‑routing as the base grows.
- Map out power lines before adding new rooms to avoid crossing wires later.
- Place water tanks near crop plots to shorten irrigation routes.

Farming, Hunting, and Animal Husbandry
You can grow crops, hunt wildlife, and raise animals to satisfy hunger and thirst. Food can be cooked or preserved, giving you flexibility to store nutrition for later use when fresh resources are scarce.
Raising animals provides a source of resources, while hunting supplies additional meat and crafting components. Both activities are affected by the dynamic weather and day/night cycle, which can change animal behavior.
- Harvest crops before a weather change that could reduce yields.
- Check animal health regularly to maintain a steady supply of resources.

Mining and Refining
Mining yields raw ores that can be refined into advanced crafting components. Refining lets you process these ores into usable materials for tools, building parts, and other items needed for base expansion.
Because the game tracks hunger, thirst, temperature, and health, you must balance time spent mining with personal needs. Carrying enough food and water while working in cold or hot conditions helps maintain health during long mining trips.
- Set up a small shelter near mining sites to rest without returning to base.
- Keep a water supply handy when mining in hot weather to avoid dehydration.

Seasons, Weather, and Day/Night Cycle
Dynamic seasons and weather alter temperature, visibility, and resource availability. The day/night cycle further influences wildlife activity, creating a constantly shifting survival landscape.
Survival planning must account for these changes; cold nights may require heat sources, while rain can affect crop growth. Observing the current cycle helps you decide when to farm, hunt, or focus on building tasks.
- Build heating sources before the first night of a cold season.
- Schedule farming activities during periods of mild weather for better yields.

Optional AI Enemies – Vambies
Vambies are hybrid AI enemies you may encounter while surviving. Engaging them adds combat to the survival loop, requiring you to monitor health and temperature while fighting.
The presence of Vambies is optional; you can disable them in settings for a focus solely on building, farming, and resource management without combat interruptions.
- If you prefer building, turn Vambies off in the options menu.
- When fighting Vambies, keep an eye on both health and body temperature.
