About The Dweller

The Dweller is a puzzle game that puts you in the role of an ancient monster defending its underground city. Archaeologists explore the ruins, but your task is to eliminate every intruder using the environment.

Movement is limited to the cave rock, and you manipulate boulders and later teleportation to solve each of the over‑50 non‑linear levels. Progress unlocks story notes that reveal the fate of the explorers and the monster’s origins.

01 / THE GUIDE

Monster Movement

Your avatar can only travel along the cave rock, which forces you to plan routes carefully. This restriction creates a core puzzle element, as you must position boulders to reach new areas.

Later levels introduce teleportation, adding another layer of spatial reasoning while still respecting the rock‑bound movement rule.

  • Observe the rock layout before moving any boulders.
  • Consider how teleportation points might shorten a path.

02 / THE GUIDE

Environment Manipulation

Boulders serve as the primary tool for navigating the ruins. By moving them around, you can shape routes through the caverns and reach the archaeologists.

The game encourages creative use of these objects, turning simple rock formations into strategic assets for eliminating foes.

  • Experiment with boulder placement to discover hidden routes.
  • Use boulders to open new paths toward the archaeologists.

Level Design

The map is non‑linear, allowing you to approach challenges in multiple orders. Each of the more than 50 levels presents a distinct puzzle that builds on earlier mechanics.

Difficulty escalates as new elements, such as teleportation, are introduced, keeping the experience fresh throughout the campaign.

  • Tackle easier levels first to master basic boulder mechanics.
  • Revisit earlier levels after unlocking new abilities for alternative solutions.

04 / THE GUIDE

Story Notes

Completing levels unlocks notes that gradually reveal the narrative. These notes detail the archaeologists’ fate, a secret organization, and hints about the monster’s origin.

The story unfolds alongside gameplay, rewarding progress with deeper lore rather than altering puzzle mechanics.

  • Read each note fully to piece together the overarching plot.
  • Compare notes from different levels for hidden connections.

Platform Features

The Dweller runs on Windows and Linux, supporting single‑player mode, Steam Achievements, Trading Cards, Cloud saves, and Family Sharing. These features enhance replayability and allow progress to be stored online.

No multiplayer or additional platforms are listed, keeping the experience focused on solo puzzle solving.

  • Enable Steam Cloud to keep your progress across installations.
  • Check the Achievements list for optional challenges.
