About The Deadseat
The Deadseat places you in the backseat of a family car, where a handheld game begins to echo the real world. As your parents argue, you must collect in‑game items that appear in the backseat to fend off a looming monstrosity. The experience blends a short, terrifying Main Campaign with a demanding Hard Mode that extends the story at a higher difficulty.
Beyond the core narrative, the game offers a Challenge Mode with eight preset or fully custom scenarios, letting you tweak character, enemy, and environment settings. Developed by Curious Fox Sox, it runs on Windows via Steam, supporting achievements, captions, Workshop content, and Family Sharing.
01 / THE GUIDE
Main Campaign
The Main Campaign is a brief, horror‑filled sequence where you must gather supplies from the handheld game and use them to defend the backseat. The story unfolds as the game mirrors the tension between your parents, creating a claustrophobic atmosphere.
The drive only moves onward with nowhere to run, and the monster’s approach forces you to juggle collected items while staying alive. The campaign sets the tone for the game's themes of escapism and a difficult childhood.
- Observe how quickly the monster advances to prioritize essential supplies.
- Take note of moments when the game’s narrative aligns with the car’s tension for deeper immersion.

Hard Mode
Hard Mode continues the story after the Main Campaign, raising difficulty with a single life, faster monster movement, and remixed levels. It removes any mercy, demanding precise management of supplies.
The mode is designed for players seeking a more intense experience, preserving the same narrative backdrop while intensifying the challenge.
- Conserve supplies early; the faster monster leaves little room for error.
- Study the remixed level layouts to anticipate new threat patterns.

Challenge Mode
Challenge Mode offers eight unique presets or fully custom configurations, letting you adjust difficulty, enemies, and environment. This mode encourages experimentation to unlock hidden lore.
You can tailor the character, monster, and surroundings, creating a personalized test of skill across the game's full difficulty spectrum.
- Start with the easiest preset to learn custom parameters before tackling harder ones.
- Compare different environment settings to see how they affect monster behavior.

Story and Themes
The narrative explores escapism and a troubled childhood, using the car’s confined space as a metaphor for parental conflict. The handheld game’s voice suggests an impossible escape.
Through the horror lens, the story reflects how the protagonist cannot ignore real‑world problems, no matter how deeply they immerse themselves in the game.
- Reflect on how the game’s voice parallels the in‑car tension for a richer emotional experience.
- Consider the symbolism of collected items as coping mechanisms.
