About The Citadel

The Citadel is a hardcore, old‑school shooter that echoes 90’s action titles. Players traverse six episodes, each with thirty main levels, and can discover six secret levels hidden throughout the game. The experience is built around fast‑paced combat, diverse enemies, and six fearsome bosses to face off against.

Fourteen weapons, each with a secondary fire mode, and three single‑use special weapons give a broad tactical palette. Optional features such as leaning and weapon‑jam can be toggled, adding extra layers of difficulty for players who want a tougher challenge.

01 / THE GUIDE

Episodes and Levels

The game is divided into six episodes, each containing thirty action‑packed levels. Hub areas appear throughout the game, offering a brief respite when difficulty spikes.

Across the entire game there are six secret levels that reward exploration. These secret stages are additional levels beyond the main thirty per episode.

  • Use hub areas to pause and adjust optional settings before re‑entering a tough episode.
  • Search for hidden paths; secret levels often sit off the main route.

02 / THE GUIDE

Weapon Arsenal

Fourteen different weapons are available, each equipped with an obliterating secondary fire function. Some weapons can be upgraded or swapped for superior versions, expanding tactical options.

Three single‑use special weapons provide powerful, one‑time effects. Weapon condition can be toggled, allowing automatic weapons to jam during combat for added challenge.

  • Try each secondary fire to see which complements your primary weapon best.
  • Enable weapon‑jam mode if you prefer a more demanding shooting experience.

Combat Mechanics

All enemy attacks are projectile‑based, so dodging skill is essential. Light enemies can be kicked or stunned, allowing them to be knocked into pits or lava for instant elimination.

When enemies die they explode into chunks of meat or metal, providing visceral feedback. The enemy roster includes axe‑throwing cultists, suicide drones, mecha tanks, and flamethrower troopers.

  • Position yourself to kick lightweight foes into environmental hazards.
  • Practice timing dodges to avoid projectile fire.

Continues and Difficulty

The Citadel offers unlimited continues, letting players retry sections until they succeed. This design encourages persistence without imposing a hard fail state.

Hub areas serve as safe zones where players can recover before re‑entering challenging sections, making the difficulty curve more manageable while still demanding skillful play.

  • Take advantage of unlimited continues to learn enemy patterns.
  • Use hub areas to adjust optional settings like leaning before returning to action.

05 / THE GUIDE

Optional Features

Leaning can be enabled in the options menu, providing an additional method to avoid enemy fire beyond traditional dodging.

Weapon condition can also be toggled, introducing the possibility of automatic weapons jamming mid‑battle, which adds realism and difficulty.

  • Enable leaning to add a tactical layer when navigating tight corridors.
  • Turn on weapon‑jam for a realistic feel, but be ready to switch to secondary weapons.
