About The Axis Unseen
The Axis Unseen® is a heavy‑metal horror action‑RPG where you hunt folklore monsters across an open, mysterious world. Developed by a veteran of Skyrim and Fallout, the game blends deep combat, stealth, and exploration while most UI elements appear on the bow and hand tattoos.
Players can upgrade sense powers, experiment with elemental arrows, and follow a dynamic soundtrack that shifts between atmospheric tones and intense metal. Single‑player mode offers adjustable difficulty, a pacifist photo option, and an optional permadeath challenge.

World and Exploration
The open world is littered with tracks, blood trails, scent particles and warmth traces that guide you toward creatures. A designated safe area contains a 3‑D map that lets you fast‑travel without opening a separate menu.
Journals left by previous hunters and your own notes reveal the vanished village’s history and the origin of the monsters, encouraging you to map terrain and piece together the story.
- Follow scent particles to locate hidden creatures before they notice you.
- Use the 3‑D map in the safe area to plan routes and reduce backtracking.

Combat and Hunting Mechanics
Combat centers on a bow that displays noise level, magic reserve, visibility and arrow count. Creatures track you by sight, sound and smell, and each has specific weaknesses you can exploit.
Elemental arrows—fire, wind, time—can interact; for example, wind arrows can cause fire to spread faster, letting you experiment with different combinations to defeat foes.
- Watch the noise meter to stay out of creature detection range.
- Test wind arrows on fire‑based enemies to observe the spread effect.

Difficulty Settings and Modes
Difficulty can be changed at any time, ranging from a hardcore permadeath option to a pacifist mode where you photograph creatures instead of killing them. This lets you tailor the challenge to your preferred style.
The game also supports adjustable difficulty without timed input, allowing players to focus on immersion rather than reflex‑based pressure.
- Switch to pacifist mode if you prefer exploration over combat.
- Try permadeath after mastering basic mechanics for a high‑stakes experience.

Immersive UI Design
Almost all UI elements are integrated into the world: the bow shows status, hand tattoos light up to indicate health and active powers, and the quiver displays remaining arrows. This design reinforces the feeling of being the hunter.
Upgraded senses reveal scent particles, warmth traces and unique colors, providing visual cues that replace traditional menus and help you track creatures.
- Watch tattoo lighting to monitor health without pausing.
- Notice color changes after sense upgrades for hidden clues.

Dynamic Music and Atmosphere
The soundtrack, composed by Clifford Meyer of ISIS and Red Sparowes, blends heavy metal with primitive instruments. Music dynamically shifts to match gameplay, becoming atmospheric during exploration and intense metal during combat.
These audio changes react to player actions, reinforcing the horror‑metal tone and enhancing immersion without requiring separate menu controls.
- Listen for music changes to anticipate upcoming combat.
- Enjoy quieter tracks while mapping to appreciate atmospheric layers.
