About Tallowmere

Tallowmere is a 2D indie action roguelike‑inspired platformer where you raise a shield to block attacks and strike when the timing is right. Each run generates new rooms that grow larger and tougher, rewarding skillful play with weapons, outfits, shields and other loot of varying rarity.\nThe game supports single‑player, local co‑op for up to four players on the same screen, and offers keyboard, mouse and full controller input. Leaderboards track high scores and speedruns, while Steam Cloud saves let you resume later.

01 / THE GUIDE

Shield Blocking and Striking

The core mechanic is simple: raise your shield to block enemy attacks, lower it to strike when the timing is right. Jumping or moving lets you avoid traps, and the shield can also reduce damage taken.\nEach room contains enemies, elite variants, bosses, traps and treasure chests, all placed randomly, so you must stay alert to succeed.

  • Observe enemy attack patterns before committing to a block; timing is key.
  • Use the shield’s damage‑reduction when navigating spike or acid traps.

02 / THE GUIDE

Seven‑Tier Item Rarity

Weapons, outfits, headgear and shields come in seven rarity tiers from Basic to Otherworldly. Higher‑rarity gear offers stronger stats, helping you survive deeper rooms.\nCollecting these items is essential because each room gets progressively harder and more rewarding the further you go.

  • Prioritize picking up higher‑rarity gear when you find it; it often outweighs quantity.
  • Swap out lower‑rarity equipment before entering a new, larger room.

Enemy Types and Elite Variations

The dungeons host many foes: fire mages, archers, leapers, conductors, ogres, flail knights, feelers, bloats and zaeries. Each type also appears as elite versions with tougher behavior.\nLearning each enemy’s quirks is crucial for surviving the infinite run and achieving high scores.

  • Watch elite enemies closely; they often add new attack patterns to the base type.
  • Group similar enemies together to manage damage more efficiently.

04 / THE GUIDE

Local Co‑op (Up to 4 Players)

Tallowmere supports local co‑op for up to four players sharing the same screen, with players connecting up to four controllers. No network or LAN co‑op is available.\nCo‑op adds frantic couch‑gaming chaos, as each player must manage their own shield while navigating shared traps and enemies.

  • Coordinate shield blocks with teammates to cover multiple attack directions.
  • Assign one player to focus on trap avoidance while others handle enemy combat.

05 / THE GUIDE

Progression, Souls and Leaderboards

Defeated enemies drop souls, which you can turn in to raise base stats and passive abilities. Keys unlock the next room, and treasure chests provide loot.\nYour runs are recorded in local and global Steam leaderboards, allowing you to compare speedrun times and high scores with other players.

  • Collect as many souls as possible before moving on; they boost future survivability.
  • Check the global leaderboard after each run to gauge where you stand.
