About Stonewards
Stonewards is a first‑person roguelite where dwarves answer distress calls from nearby kingdoms. Players dig, forge, and defend strongholds against waves of monsters, either solo or with up to three friends. Each mission alternates between combat and a timed mining sprint.
The game blends procedural mines with randomized upgrades. Between enemy waves you collect metals, craft arrows, repair walls, and unlock new abilities. Survival hinges on fast digging, smart resource use, and coordinated defense, all wrapped in a humorous dwarf‑themed setting.

Gameplay Loop
Each mission follows a repeatable pattern: defend a stronghold against a monster wave, then rush into a procedurally generated mine. After the wave ends, a timer starts, forcing players to gather resources before the next horn sounds. Timing is essential for each cycle.
If the kingdom falls during a wave, the mission ends immediately. Surviving a wave lets the loop continue, granting another chance to mine, forge, and defend. The loop shapes difficulty and rewards for the current run.
- Plan your exit route from the mine to maximize time for the next wave.
- Balance digging speed with the amount of loot you can safely carry.

Mining Phase
When a wave ends, the clock starts and players dive into twisting tunnels to collect metals, rare materials, and other shiny rocks. The mines are procedurally generated, so layouts differ each run, requiring quick adaptation.
Collected loot must be returned before the next attack begins. Delays reduce the time available for defense, meaning teammates may have to hold the line with fewer dwarves. Efficient routes and rapid hauling are key to maximizing resources.
- Identify high‑value nodes early and head straight for them.
- Leave low‑value items for later runs to save time.

Forging & Upgrades
Resources gathered in the mine are used between waves to craft arrows, repair defenses, and unlock randomized upgrades. Upgrades may increase raw strength, add strange powers, or improve wall durability, and each run’s set is unique.
The forge acts as a hub for converting raw metal into functional tools. Players must decide how to allocate limited loot between immediate repairs and longer‑term power gains, shaping the strategy for the upcoming wave.
- Weigh immediate wall repairs against longer‑term upgrade benefits.
- Try different upgrade combinations across runs to discover effective builds.

Defense Mechanics
During enemy waves dwarves take positions on walls, cover gates, and use crafted tools to stop the horde. If monsters breach outer defenses, players must fall back, regroup, and continue fighting to protect the kingdom.
When the kingdom falls, the mission ends. Surviving waves allows the loop to continue, rewarding players with more resources and upgrade opportunities for the next cycle.
- Focus fire on monsters that target walls first.
- Use repaired sections as chokepoints to thin enemy numbers.

Multiplayer & Co‑op
Stonewards supports solo play and online co‑op for up to four players. Whether alone or with friends, the same monster waves arrive and the same mining‑defense cycle repeats for each participant.
Co‑op introduces shared timing: if one dwarf lags in mining, the group has less time to prepare defenses. Coordinated digging routes and defensive positions improve the team’s chance to survive each wave.
- Assign one player to focus on mining while others guard the walls.
- Synchronize your return to the base to maximize preparation time.
