About StarMade
StarMade is a voxel‑based 3D sandbox set in an endless, procedurally generated universe. Players can build ships, stations, factories and warp gates, then explore countless galaxies, stars and planets while salvaging space stations and gathering resources.
The game runs on Windows, macOS and Linux and offers both single‑player and multiplayer modes. It is free to play during its alpha development, and extensive configuration options let users adjust graphics and performance for a wide range of hardware.
01 / THE GUIDE
Procedurally Generated Infinite Universe
StarMade creates a universe without preset limits, generating new galaxies, stars and planets as players travel. The description notes quadrillions of galaxies and that crossing the whole universe would take roughly ten thousand years, indicating true scalability.
Because the universe is effectively endless, exploration can continue indefinitely. Players often use warp gates to shorten travel distances, turning the vastness into a manageable network of reachable sectors.
- Mark sector coordinates or keep a simple map to avoid losing direction.
- Place warp gates early to create shortcuts between distant regions.

Advanced Build Tools
StarMade provides copy‑paste, undo/redo, symmetry modes and shape‑assistance tools such as spheres, cycles and torus. These utilities let players assemble ships, stations and bases more efficiently than placing each block individually.
Templates can be rotated, and the tools support large, fully interactable objects. This makes construction possible on both low‑end and high‑end rigs, matching the game’s scalability focus.
- Use symmetry to mirror hull sections and reduce placement time.
- Save frequently used designs as templates for quick reuse.

Modular Weapon Systems
Weapons in StarMade are modular, allowing players to combine components into many configurations, from sniper‑style beams to swarm‑missile arrays. This flexibility lets ships be tailored for a range of combat roles.
The modular system can be linked with the game’s rail and logic features, enabling automated firing or remote activation as part of larger ship designs.
- Mix long‑range and short‑range weapons to cover different engagement distances.
- Connect weapons to logic gates for timed volleys or conditional firing.

Rail and Logic Systems
The rail system lets creators build moving parts such as elevators, sliding doors and cranes. Logic gates—including AND, OR, NOT, DELAY and Flip‑Flop—control these mechanisms and other entities like lights or explosives.
Complex circuits can emulate a CPU, offering deep automation possibilities inside ships or stations. Simple gates can be combined to produce timers, switches or more elaborate control schemes.
- Start with basic AND/OR gates before attempting full CPU‑style circuits.
- Use DELAY gates to synchronize moving parts that must operate in sequence.

Community Multiplayer and Configurability
StarMade supports dedicated community servers where players can cooperate or compete. Server administrators can modify core mechanics through extensive config options, tailoring gameplay and performance to their hardware.
Cross‑platform multiplayer works across Windows, macOS and Linux, and partial controller support is available for those who prefer it.
- Read a server’s config description before joining to understand any custom rules.
- Adjust graphical settings to match your hardware for smoother multiplayer sessions.
