About Starlathe

Starlathe is a 2D top‑down space simulation where a living galaxy runs continuously across 150 sectors. Miners, transporters, factories and war fleets all act in real time, and every ship, shipment and wreck persists whether you are present or not.

You begin with a modest vessel and may mine, trade, fight, craft or command a fleet. Up to three friends can join the same galaxy in online co‑op, each keeping their own ship, wallet and missions while sharing exploration and the evolving economy.

01 / THE GUIDE

Living Galaxy Simulation

The galaxy runs for real across 150 sectors, with miners extracting ore, transporters hauling goods, factories producing items and war fleets battling for territory. All of these actions occur live and continue even when you are not watching.

Stations can be destroyed, evacuated or rebuilt, and faction territory shifts as a result of player actions and market changes. Prices react to real supply and demand, creating a dynamic economy.

  • Watch sector activity to anticipate where conflict may arise.
  • Monitor market prices before committing to large trades.

02 / THE GUIDE

Choose Your Path

You start with a small ship and can specialize as a miner, trader, pirate or fleet commander. Mining refines ore, trading exploits a supply chain of over 50 goods, and combat lets you hunt pirates or become one.

Crafting lets you build weapons, modules and full ships from refined components, expanding what you can do in any chosen role.

  • Try different roles to see which generates the most credits for your playstyle.
  • Combine mining and trading for a self‑sustaining income loop.

03 / THE GUIDE

Build and Command Fleets

You can purchase multiple ships, assign them roles such as miner, transporter or escort, and organize them into a fleet. Fleets engage in ship‑to‑ship battles using turrets, rockets, beams and point‑defense systems.

A dreadnought flagship can lead your battle line while smaller vessels handle logistics and protection, allowing you to balance combat power with economic support.

  • Balance combat and support ships to keep income flowing during wars.
  • Use escorts to guard valuable cargo routes.

04 / THE GUIDE

Exploration and Fog of War

Uncharted sectors remain hidden until you chart them, revealing ship graveyards, abandoned zones and wild space beyond the gates. The galaxy offers 22 distinct skies to explore.

Exploration data is shared in co‑op, so friends can discover new areas together while the galaxy continues to evolve for all pilots.

  • Prioritize charting sectors with high resource potential.
  • Coordinate with friends to cover more ground quickly.

05 / THE GUIDE

Multiplayer Co‑op

Up to three friends can join the same living galaxy via Steam online co‑op. Each pilot has an individual ship, wallet, fleet and missions, but all share exploration data and the evolving market.

Friends cannot damage each other, and progress for each pilot is saved separately, allowing you to pick up where you left off after an invite.

  • Invite friends early to build complementary fleets.
  • Use shared exploration to uncover distant sectors faster.
