About STARBITES

STARBITES is a story‑driven sci‑fi RPG set on the war‑torn desert planet Bitter. You play as scavenger Lukida, traveling with companions Gwen‑Dol and Badger to uncover the planet’s hidden secrets. The game blends exploration, turn‑based combat, and motorbot customization as you strive to escape the sands.

The world is split between the sand‑buried City of Delight, a bustling trade hub, and the open wastelands where massive bosses await. Players manage a party of up to three motorbot‑riding characters, upgrade their machines, and trigger a Drivers’ High for extra turns. Single‑player mode offers full controller support and Steam Cloud.

01 / THE GUIDE

City of Delight

The City of Delight towers over the desert, appearing cheerful yet slowly being swallowed by sand. It serves as a central hub where people gather to trade materials and information, providing a livelihood for many.

As the story progresses, new floors of the city become accessible, revealing additional locations, characters, and narrative threads. This layered design encourages players to revisit the city to discover its full breadth.

  • Explore each newly unlocked floor to locate hidden traders.
  • Observe how the sand encroachment changes the city’s layout over time.

02 / THE GUIDE

Bitter Wasteland

Beyond the city lies the desolate wasteland of Bitter, a vast sandscape dotted with secrets and terrifying bosses. Players ride their Motorbots across this harsh terrain, confronting anomalies that test combat and exploration skills.

The environment’s scale emphasizes the planet’s isolation, making each discovery feel significant. Secrets are scattered throughout, rewarding thorough investigation of the barren landscape.

  • Take time to scan the horizon for hidden structures.
  • Compare boss patterns to anticipate their attacks.

03 / THE GUIDE

Turn‑Based Battles

Combat is conducted in traditional turn‑based battles, with each character piloting their own Motorbot. Unique mechanics include a Drivers’ High gauge that, when filled, grants an extra turn and stronger attack variations.

Players can also cut in line to act before enemies, adding a strategic layer to timing and resource management during fights.

  • Monitor the Drivers’ High gauge to plan powerful combos.
  • Use the cut‑in‑line option to disrupt enemy turn order.

04 / THE GUIDE

Motorbot Upgrade

Rewards and collected materials can be used to strengthen your Motorbot. Players can outfit it with new weapons, armor, engines, and cores, tailoring the machine to their preferred combat style.

Upgrading influences both offensive and defensive capabilities, allowing for a personalized approach to the challenges presented across the city and wasteland.

  • Balance weapon and armor upgrades for optimal survivability.
  • Experiment with different engine types to find a setup that suits your style.

05 / THE GUIDE

Party Composition

You may bring up to three characters into battle, while the remaining party members act as Support, providing follow‑up attacks and passive abilities. Selecting the right trio is crucial for handling varied enemy encounters.

Support characters contribute passive effects that can tip the balance in difficult fights, encouraging thoughtful selection based on each battle’s demands.

  • Mix characters with complementary passive abilities for synergy.
  • Swap party members before boss fights to maximize support effects.
