About Species: Unknown
Species: Unknown is a first‑person survival horror game where you act as a mercenary aboard an abandoned spaceship. You can tackle contracts solo or in a squad of up to four players on private or public servers. Each contract drops you into a different nightmare scenario that demands careful strategy and teamwork.
The game features procedural selection of five intelligent threats, each with unique behaviours and weaknesses. Proximity chat and radio add tension, while tools like motion trackers, shields, health syringes and a mini‑map help you survive long enough to claim credits, upgrade gear, and expand your creature museum.

Gameplay Overview
You are a mercenary sent to execute high‑risk contracts on an abandoned ship, with the goal of surviving and earning a reward. Contracts vary from extracting black boxes to destroying the vessel, each requiring a distinct approach. The environment is dark and hostile, and the game emphasizes investigation to gather clues about the stalking threat. Success depends on adapting to the mission objective, map layout, and the specific monster you face.
- Communicate constantly with teammates to share clue locations.
- Prioritize objectives before engaging the threat to avoid unnecessary risk.

Co‑op Mechanics
Up to four players can join a squad on private or public servers, allowing shared strategies and tool usage. Proximity chat means distance and walls affect who can hear you, adding tension and chaos. Radio communication is also available, letting teams coordinate even when out of earshot. No one survives alone, but coordinated squads have a better chance against the intelligent threats.
- Use radio to relay important information when teammates are out of proximity range.
- Stay close enough for proximity chat to alert others of nearby danger.

Threat System
Each mission features one of five procedurally chosen intelligent threats, each with distinct hunting patterns, strengths, and weaknesses. Identifying the creature through clues is essential for planning an effective response. Some threats are resistant to guns or even untouchable, meaning brute force alone rarely succeeds. Understanding each monster’s behaviour lets you exploit its weaknesses with the right tools at the right time.
- Observe movement patterns early to predict attack routes.
- Match the discovered weakness with the appropriate tool or weapon.

Tools & Equipment
Players have access to a motion tracker, shield, health syringe, mini‑map and a variety of weapons. The tracker warns of nearby movement, the shield blocks attacks, and syringes heal allies. The mini‑map provides real‑time positional data in pitch‑black corridors, while weapons found at opportune moments can sometimes defeat a creature. Proper tool use can turn the tide of a contract, even if only briefly.
- Activate the motion tracker when entering new rooms to anticipate threats.
- Save health syringes for teammates who are low on health during intense encounters.

Progression & Rewards
Completing contracts grants credits, which can be spent to upgrade gear, purchase new tools, customize appearance, and collect lore for a personal creature museum. Higher‑risk contracts yield higher rewards. Upgrades improve survivability and effectiveness in future missions, while customization lets players personalize their mercenary’s look. The museum tracks discovered monsters, encouraging players to encounter a variety of threats.
- Invest credits in tools that address the most common threats you face.
- Customize appearance after major upgrades to keep the experience fresh.
