About Space Engineers
Space Engineers is an open‑world sandbox where players design, build and test spacecraft, stations and planetary bases. The game features a fully destructible, voxel‑based universe with realistic mass, inertia and damage physics. Players can explore planets, mine resources, survive hazards and engage in combat, either solo or with friends. Two main play styles—Creative with unlimited resources and Survival with manual assembly and resource management—cater to both casual building and hardcore engineering challenges.
01 / THE GUIDE
Construction and Design Tools
The game provides first‑ and third‑person building, symmetry tools and blueprints that speed large‑scale construction. Over 200 functional blocks—including thrusters, rotors, pistons and conveyors—allow detailed ship and base creation.
In Survival mode, blocks are welded together manually and can be ground down to reclaim components. All structures are built block by block, and each piece contributes to the overall mass and integrity of the vehicle.
- Use symmetry tools to keep large ships balanced and aesthetically consistent.
- Blueprints can be saved and shared via the Steam Workshop for quick replication.
02 / THE GUIDE
Volumetric Physics and Destruction
Every block and voxel possesses mass, inertia and damage values, meaning ships can break apart and stations can crumble under fire. Terrain can be drilled, cut and reshaped, allowing tunnels, craters and underground bases.
Objects deform and break based on real‑world physics, so engineering choices directly affect survivability and maneuverability.
- Distribute mass evenly to improve ship handling during combat.
- Reinforce critical sections with stronger blocks to reduce break‑off risk.

Creative vs. Survival Modes
Creative mode offers unlimited resources, instant building and no death, letting players focus on design without resource constraints. Survival mode requires manual assembly, resource gathering, power management and includes death/respawn mechanics.
Both modes support single‑player and multiplayer experiences, with privacy settings for dedicated servers.
- Start in Creative to prototype complex designs before transferring them to Survival.
- Manage power and oxygen carefully in Survival to avoid unexpected shutdowns.

Multiplayer and Community Content
Players can join co‑op outposts or large community servers, with options for PvP, online PvP and cross‑platform multiplayer. The Steam Workshop hosts thousands of ships, bases, mods, scripts and scenarios.
Dedicated servers allow privacy controls, and the game supports partial controller input for those who prefer it.
- Explore Workshop worlds to find ready‑made bases that match your play style.
- Use privacy settings to create a safe environment for new players.

Modding, Scripting and Automation
Space Engineers includes a Visual Script Editor and a programmable block for in‑game automation and custom logic. The C# Modding API lets creators alter game behavior, add new systems and integrate custom textures or models.
Mods are purely cosmetic or functional, ensuring all players share the same core gameplay while enjoying community enhancements.
- Experiment with programmable blocks to automate resource processing.
- Check the Steam Workshop for scripts that simplify complex tasks.
