About Space Engineers 2
Space Engineers 2 is a playable Alpha set in the Almagest System, where humanity’s first large‑scale colonisation mission begins. Your entry ship is damaged, tools are basic, and the planets are beautiful yet unforgiving, leaving all construction to the player. The sandbox blends survival, engineering and exploration. Mine resources, build bases, ships and machines, complete contracts and trade, while co‑op and large‑scale multiplayer will arrive later in Early Access.
01 / THE GUIDE
Almagest System Exploration
The game drops you into the distant Almagest System, a collection of planets, moons, asteroid rings and dense clusters. From this starting point you can travel to any celestial body, mine resources and discover Datapads. Exploration is open‑ended; the system’s beauty is paired with harsh environments, encouraging players to plan routes and manage limited supplies while scouting new sectors.
- Map out nearby asteroid belts first for easy resource gathering.
- Use the planet’s terrain features as natural landmarks for navigation.

Unified Grid Building System
Construction uses a 25 cm Unified Grid System where blocks fit together without a large‑grid versus small‑grid split. Tools such as Grid Undo, copy/paste, symmetry and Projection Building let you design and refine creations with precision. Visualization aids like mounting points, grid lines and improved rotation/zoom help both newcomers and veterans shape detailed ships, stations and machines.
- Activate symmetry mode when building large wings for balanced structures.
- Use Grid Undo to experiment without permanent mistakes.

Mobility and Mechanical Systems
Characters can reach up to 310 m/s and grids up to 300 m/s, aided by magboots and automatic jetpack activation for stable building on moving platforms. Rotors and pistons are already functional, while wheels, hinges, warheads and more are slated for future updates. These systems let you traverse large constructions, adjust orientation and experiment with moving parts, expanding engineering possibilities.
- Engage magboots before stepping onto a moving grid to avoid slipping.
- Test rotor limits on a small prototype before scaling up.

Survival and Progression
The Alpha includes a sandbox survival loop: manage power, oxygen, hydrogen and health while mining, processing materials and manufacturing components. Production chains, contracts and credits drive expansion across the Almagest System. Future updates promise deeper colonisation, richer economies, NPCs, campaign content and multiplayer, but the core survival loop is functional today.
- Prioritise oxygen generation early to avoid suffocation on planetary surfaces.
- Set up a simple power‑to‑oxygen loop before tackling large builds.

Visuals and Modding
Powered by the VRAGE3 engine, the game features ray‑traced global illumination, realistic shadows, tessellated voxel materials and volumetric clouds, delivering next‑level realism. Steam Workshop integration lets you share Blueprints and Worlds, while the VRAGE3 Mod HUB and Mod Editor support advanced community mods. Visual fidelity and mod support aim to keep the sandbox fresh as players contribute new designs and scenarios.
- Export your favorite Blueprint to the Workshop for community feedback.
- Experiment with the Mod Editor to add custom block textures.
