About Soul Chained
Soul Chained is an indie action‑adventure RPG created by solo developer Andrew Nicolaou. Players assume the roles of fallen rival warlords whose souls are bound together, forcing them to wander the Tower of Purgatory while confronting sin‑themed bosses.
The game centers on a physics‑driven Soul Chain that dictates combat, movement, and environmental interaction. It offers a single‑player mode with a massive glowing ball and an online Havoc Mode supporting up to four players, plus features such as adjustable difficulty, Steam achievements, and controller support on Windows.
01 / THE GUIDE
Soul Chain Mechanics
The Soul Chain is described as the core of combat, exploration, demise, and victory. It can pull enemies, sling objects, and tie foes together, while its chaotic physics can also yank teammates into danger, making each encounter unpredictable.
Chain Magic, various weaponry, and stat progression modify how the chain is used, but mastering its momentum, stamina costs, and timing remains the primary challenge presented by the game.
- Experiment with different chain angles to see how pull distance changes.
- Watch how momentum can swing you across gaps or into hazards.

Online Havoc Mode
Online Havoc Mode allows up to four players to join together, sharing the same chain physics for chaotic co‑op play. The shared chain creates both cinematic combos and accidental yanks that can lead to frantic revives.
Communication becomes important because the chain can coordinate attacks or pull the whole group into trouble, embodying the game’s design of “maximum jank and chaos.”
- Use voice chat to call out pulls and avoid unintended damage.
- Observe teammates’ positions before swinging the chain.

Single‑Player Ascension
In solo mode the Soul Chain appears as a massive glowing ball that you drag, swing, and fight with. The same physics challenges apply, focusing on personal skill without other players.
Each chapter ends with a boss representing sin, trauma, regret, or an abstract idea, testing stamina management and deliberate combat while you climb the Tower of Purgatory.
- Practice chain swings on early sections before tackling bosses.
- Conserve stamina to stay effective during prolonged fights.

Progression and Boss Encounters
Advancement occurs by ascending the Tower, with each chapter concluding in a unique boss that embodies a concept such as sin or regret. Defeating these foes moves the story forward.
Stat progression and varied weaponry provide options, yet the chain’s physics remain decisive for both offense and defense against these massive manifestations.
- Watch boss patterns to find safe moments for chain attacks.
- Adjust difficulty if a particular encounter feels overwhelming.

Soul Chained runs on Windows via Steam and lists DualShock Controller Support, DualSense Controller Support, and Partial Controller Support, indicating that gamepad input is available. Steam Cloud saves preserve progress across installations.
Additional listed features include adjustable difficulty, Steam achievements, Remote Play Together, and Family Sharing. The visual style is described as “Bad Graphics & Equal Opportunity Jiggle Physics,” reinforcing a chaotic aesthetic without affecting core gameplay.
- Enable Steam Cloud to keep progress across multiple PCs.
