About Sort of Magic
In Sort of Magic you guide a tiny cat through a chaotic magic school, where a mis‑cast spell has scattered books, potions, brooms, and ingredients across the floor. Over 4,500 handcrafted objects await placement in their proper homes, and each room you clean gradually returns to its original state.
The game supports solo play or online co‑op for up to four cats, offers full controller support, and removes timers, combat, and fail states. This design creates a relaxed, pressure‑free experience focused on sorting and magical discovery.
01 / THE GUIDE
Core Loop
The central activity is picking up an object and moving it to its designated location, such as a book shelf, potion rack, or broom rack. Progress is measured by how many objects you correctly return, which rebuilds book series, sorts potion colors, and matches ingredients.
You can perform this loop alone or with up to three friends online, each controlling their own cat in the same environment. The shared space does not add timers or combat, so every player can work at a comfortable pace.
- Take advantage of the lack of timers to explore each room fully before placing items.
- When co‑op, discuss which object categories each player will focus on to reduce duplicate effort.

Sorting Mechanics
Objects are organized by type—books, colorful potions, magical ingredients, brooms, and hidden wands—each with a specific storage spot. Visual cues on the objects indicate their proper home, and placing them correctly restores order in the school.
Six handcrafted rooms introduce new object types as you progress, providing varied sorting challenges. The sheer number of items (over 4,500) ensures each room feels distinct while maintaining the same basic pick‑up‑and‑place loop.
- Group similar items before heading to their storage area to cut down on back‑and‑forth trips.
- Observe the visual design of each object to quickly identify its correct destination.

Magical Spells
Spells act as optional abilities that speed up cleaning. Insight reveals matching items on the ground, Assemble summons matching items to you, Homing Sense highlights where an item belongs, and Auto Shelving places everything you’re carrying at once.
Because Auto Shelving can place all carried items in a single action, you are not required to manually drop each object individually. Selecting spells that suit your approach lets you handle the workload in the way you find most efficient.
- Try Insight early in larger rooms to locate scattered items quickly.
- Use Auto Shelving when your inventory is full to place all items in bulk.

Room Progression
The school consists of six handcrafted rooms, each introducing fresh objects and sorting challenges. As you return items, the visual state of the room improves, showing the school’s restoration in real time.
Each new room adds different categories, prompting you to adapt your spell usage and sorting strategy. Each room introduces new objects and fresh sorting challenges as you explore the school.
- Finish a room before moving on to see the full visual impact of your cleanup.
- Notice any new object types when entering a room and adjust your spell choice accordingly.

Multiplayer Co‑op
Online co‑op supports up to four players, each controlling a separate cat in the same school. All participants share the same sorting objectives without added timers or combat, preserving the relaxed atmosphere.
Friends can coordinate spell usage and divide object categories, allowing the group to clean more efficiently while still enjoying the same gentle pacing as solo play.
- Communicate which spell each player will focus on to cover multiple sorting aids simultaneously.
- Assign each player a specific object category to avoid overlap and speed up overall cleanup.
