About Sonic Origins
Sonic Origins brings together the four iconic Sonic the Hedgehog titles—Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD—remastered in high‑definition with fresh opening and ending animations. Players can choose Classic mode for original resolution and limited lives, or the new Anniversary Mode that offers unlimited lives in a widescreen HD presentation.
The Plus edition expands the collection with twelve Sonic Game Gear titles, adds playable Knuckles in Sonic CD, and introduces Amy Rose as a selectable character across the main games. Additional content such as the Classic Music Pack, Premium Fun Pack, and various unlockables round out what the developers call the definitive Sonic experience.
01 / THE GUIDE
Classic vs. Anniversary Mode
Classic mode preserves the original resolution and the traditional limited‑lives structure, letting players feel the constraints of the 1990s releases. Anniversary Mode removes life limits and presents the games in a revamped widescreen HD format, offering a more forgiving playthrough.
The source describes Classic mode as the original resolution with limited lives and Anniversary Mode as unlimited lives in revamped widescreen HD; treat any further differences between the modes as something to observe for yourself.
- Try Classic mode first to gauge the original challenge before switching to Anniversary for a relaxed run.
- Compare how the widescreen view in Anniversary Mode affects your perception of hidden paths.

Playable Characters
Sonic Origins Plus lets you control Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and, for the first time, Amy Rose in the four main titles and Sonic CD. Each character is selectable before starting a game, providing a familiar roster for fans.
The addition of Amy does not replace any existing character; instead, she appears as an extra option alongside the original cast, expanding the character selection without altering level design or story content.
- Experiment with Amy Rose to see how her sprite differs from Sonic’s in the same stages.
- Switch between Tails and Knuckles to compare their visual animations in menus.

These twelve classic Game Gear titles offer a nostalgic counterpoint to the remastered console releases in the collection.
- Play the Game Gear titles back‑to‑back to notice differences in control feel versus the console versions.
