About Smack Studio
Smack Studio is a sandbox fighting game that lets players turn 2D pixel sprites into 3D‑animated fighters using an automated rigging system. The built‑in creation suite lets you design characters, projectiles and ultra attacks in under half an hour and then drop them straight into battle.
The game supports up to eight local players or four online opponents with rollback netcode, and it integrates Steam Workshop for sharing and downloading community‑made content. Controllers of any DirectInput or XInput type work, and the software runs on Windows PCs with higher‑end hardware.
01 / THE GUIDE
Battle Mode
Players can fight offline with up to eight participants or online with four, using rollback netcode for smoother matches. The base roster includes sixteen characters and twenty‑three stages, plus a hidden stage for discovery.
Combat emphasizes fast‑paced, competitive play with high combo potential and player‑crafted ultra attacks. Both CPU and human opponents are supported, and the game feel is described as ultra‑smooth.
- Try mixing default characters with your own creations to test balance.
- Explore the secret stage for a change of scenery.

Character Editor
The editor maps 2D pixel art onto a 3D skeleton, allowing depth, rotation and bone‑driven animation. Templates let you go from concept to playable fighter in less than thirty minutes.
You can animate frame‑by‑frame, add custom projectiles, special effects and simple code‑like actions directly onto animations. Finished rigs can be exported for any project.
- Use the provided templates to speed up early builds.
- Keep character height between 50‑150 px for smoother rigging.

Controller Support
Smack Studio works with any DirectInput or XInput gamepad, including GameCube controllers via official adapters or third‑party USB devices. DualShock and DualSense controllers receive explicit support.
Partial controller support is noted, meaning the game can be played without a keyboard, though no exclusive controller‑only mode is required.
- Test your controller before a multiplayer session to avoid input lag.
- Consider using the MayFlash adapter for GameCube sticks.

Steam Workshop Integration
Creators can upload their characters, stages and effects to Steam Workshop, making them available to the whole community. Conversely, you can browse and download endless community creations.
The platform holds no legal claim over user‑generated IP, allowing artists to monetize or share their work as they wish.
- Browse popular uploads for inspiration before starting your own project.
- Credit original creators when remixing community assets.

Performance Recommendations
Smack Studio is more demanding than typical pixel‑art tools because of its 3D rotation and Unreal Engine integration. The developers recommend a capable PC for smooth operation.
Canvas size is limited to 256 × 256 px, with optimal character heights between 50 and 150 px. Larger or smaller assets may need extra manual cleanup.
- Close other GPU‑heavy applications while editing large sprites.
- Stay within the 256 px canvas limit to avoid export issues.
