About Ship of Fools

Ship of Fools is a seafaring roguelite where you become a Fool, one of the few creatures daring enough to sail the storm‑riddled Archipelago after the Great Lighthouse falls. Together with a shipmate you board the Stormstrider to battle sea monsters and halt the Aquapocalypse.

The game mixes frantic cannon combat with solo or co‑op play, letting you chart shifting storms, repair your vessel, and collect over a hundred trinkets and artifacts across multiple runs. Hand‑drawn art and split‑screen support emphasize the nautical theme.

01 / THE GUIDE

Co‑op Combat

In co‑op mode two players share ship duties such as manning cannons, adjusting sails, and repairing damage while confronting colossal leviathans. Coordination is required to keep the vessel afloat and to repel waves of enemies that appear during each encounter.

The game supports local split‑screen co‑op, and a controller is required for that multiplayer mode. Players can combine item effects, creating stronger combos that increase survivability against the storm’s threats.

  • Assign one player to navigation and the other to weapons to avoid overlapping actions.
  • Communicate reload timers so cannon fire is spaced efficiently.

02 / THE GUIDE

Solo Play

When playing alone you control all ship functions—steering, sail management, cannon fire, and repairs—while the game scales challenges to suit a single sailor. The core roguelite loop of exploration, combat, and loot remains intact.

Solo runs grant access to the same islands, shops, and over 100 trinkets and artifacts, allowing you to progress and unlock new items without needing a partner.

  • Prioritize defensive upgrades early to compensate for the lack of a second player.
  • Use the map to select routes that minimize exposure to storm‑blocked sectors.

03 / THE GUIDE

Storm Navigation

Each run features the Everlasting Storm, which shifts and blocks routes across the Archipelago. Mapping the sea reveals islands, remote shops, and hidden treasures, but the storm’s movement forces you to adapt your course continually.

Timing your voyages to avoid the storm’s fury can reduce damage and conserve resources, while daring incursions may expose valuable loot but increase risk.

  • Check the storm’s current layout before committing to a path.
  • Plan detours through calmer sectors to gather extra trinkets.

04 / THE GUIDE

Item Combos

Ship of Fools offers more than 100 trinkets and artifacts, each providing distinct effects. Collecting and equipping multiple items lets you create synergistic combos that can dramatically alter combat outcomes.

Experimentation is encouraged; different runs present new opportunities to discover powerful interactions, and successful combos can be the key to defeating the toughest leviathans.

  • Pair offensive trinkets with defensive artifacts for balanced builds.
  • Record which combos yield the highest damage against specific enemies.

Platform Features

Ship of Fools runs on Windows and requires a controller for local split‑screen co‑op. Full controller support includes DualShock and DualSense compatibility, ensuring consistent input across devices.

Steam integration provides achievements, cloud saves, Remote Play Together, and Family Sharing. These features let you keep progress across PCs and invite friends to watch or join sessions without needing a second copy.

  • Enable Steam Cloud to synchronize saves between multiple computers.
  • Use Remote Play Together if a friend lacks a controller.
