About Shift At Midnight
Shift At Midnight puts you behind the counter of a chaotic gas station where you must restock shelves, take deliveries, keep the premises clean, and meet a nightly sales quota. Every customer is subject to a brief interrogation because some are doppelganger impostors that will return as monsters if they slip through. The game mixes routine management with detective work and can be played solo or with friends in online co‑op, where proximity chat helps coordinate tasks and defenses. Story Mode offers 13 randomly generated shifts, ensuring each night feels fresh, while a planned Endless Mode update for Q4 2026 promises an ongoing challenge with new customers, traps, and monsters.
01 / THE GUIDE
Core Gameplay Loop
Players manage a gas station by restocking shelves, receiving deliveries, and maintaining cleanliness while serving customers. The loop repeats each night, with the added pressure of meeting a sales quota before the shift ends.
If a non‑human customer slips through, they will later return as a monster, forcing the player to set traps, barricade doors, and hide. Success depends on balancing routine tasks with defensive preparation.
- Prioritize cleaning and restocking early to free time for interrogation later.
- Keep a few traps ready before the shift ends to react quickly to monster attacks.

Customer Interrogation
Every patron must be examined: check ID, cross‑reference details on the computer, and observe behavior. This detective step determines whether they are human or a doppelganger.
Missing a doppelganger means they will return later in the same shift to try and kill you and your friends, so thorough interrogation is essential.
- Take a moment to compare the ID information with the computer entry before serving.
- Watch for odd behavior cues that might hint at a non‑human visitor.

Multiplayer Co‑op
The game supports online co‑op where players can work together to manage the station and defend against monsters. Proximity chat lets teammates communicate in real time, enhancing coordination.
Co‑op is described as the mode where the game thrives, encouraging players to either collaborate or simply stay together during dangerous encounters.
- Use proximity chat to call out suspicious customers quickly.
- Assign one player to focus on stock while another handles interrogation.

Randomly Generated Shifts
Story Mode consists of 13 shifts that are randomly generated, ensuring no two playthroughs are identical. Each shift presents a new mix of customers, deliveries, and potential threats.
The randomness adds replay value, as players must adapt to varying layouts, stock levels, and doppelganger appearances each night.
- Treat each shift as a fresh puzzle; avoid relying on patterns from previous runs.
- Take note of any recurring monster types to improve future preparedness.

Endless Mode (Beta)
A free major update planned for Q4 2026 will add an Endless Mode featuring exclusive customers, weapons, traps, and monsters. This mode is currently in beta and will extend play beyond the 13‑shift story.
Endless Mode promises a continuous challenge, encouraging longer sessions and experimentation with new defensive tools.
- Experiment with different trap placements early to discover effective combos.
- Track which exclusive customers appear most often to prioritize their neutralization.
