About Shepherd's Crossing
Shepherd's Crossing is a sandbox ranch simulation where players manage a single‑box garden to raise animals and grow crops. Money is absent; instead, animals and crops are exchanged through barter, letting players shape their own objectives within a light storyline.
The sequel adds quality‑of‑life upgrades: four zoom levels for the ranch, an expanded inventory of seven item slots, and placement markers for items and fences. These tools aim to help casual players organize their ranch and monitor animal activity more easily.
01 / THE GUIDE
Ranch Zoom Levels
The ranch view can be switched among four distinct zoom levels, ranging from a close‑up perspective to a fully zoomed‑out display. At the maximum zoom out, animals and items appear as uniformly sized dots, providing a concise overview of population distribution.
These visual scales let players observe herd movement and layout without altering gameplay mechanics. Changing zoom is a visual aid that supports planning expansions or checking for overcrowding while keeping individual details accessible when needed.
- Use the farthest zoom to identify densely populated zones quickly.
- Switch to close‑up when arranging fences for precise placement.

Item Slot Expansion
Players may now carry up to seven items simultaneously, an increase from the original three‑item limit. This larger inventory reduces the frequency of trips back to storage when gathering resources across the ranch.
Having more slots also aids in organizing the farm, as a broader selection of tools or produce can be held while moving around, allowing smoother transitions between tasks.
- Group similar items together in inventory to keep track of supplies.
- Plan collection routes that let you fill all seven slots before returning.

Placement Marker Display
When placing items or fences, a marker can be displayed to show the exact location before confirming placement. This visual cue helps maintain neat rows and organized boundaries on the ranch.
The marker system is optional but useful for players who prefer tidy layouts, especially when arranging multiple fences or decorative objects in close proximity.
- Enable markers when building long fence sections to keep them straight.
- Use markers to align items along a consistent line for a cleaner appearance.

Barter‑Based Economy
Shepherd's Crossing replaces traditional currency with a barter system; animals and crops are exchanged directly between the player and NPCs. This encourages balancing livestock breeding with crop production.
Because there is no money, each item's value is judged by its usefulness in future trades, prompting players to consider which resources will be most beneficial for upcoming exchanges.
- Focus on crops that yield high quantities for frequent trades.
- Breed animals that provide resources useful in later barter deals.

Single‑Box Ranch Scope
The game confines players to a single box garden, representing a compact ranch environment. Within this limited space, players can raise animals, plant crops, and arrange structures.
The confined area encourages creative layout decisions and efficient use of space, as every addition directly impacts the overall farm design and visual harmony.
- Sketch a basic layout before placing permanent structures.
- Leave open pathways to allow easy movement of animals and items.
