About Shards of Order
Shards of Order is a dark‑fantasy RPG that replaces traditional turn‑based, mana‑driven card combat with a real‑time countdown system. Every enemy displays a visible timer, and each card you play shifts those counters, making time the central resource to manage.
You lead three heroes who share a single deck, choosing gear that not only changes stats but also injects unique cards. The game blends classic RPG growth—skill trees, equipment, dialogue choices—with strategic deckbuilding, all set in a fractured world where ancient Laws must be reclaimed.
01 / THE GUIDE
Combat System
Combat revolves around a visible enemy countdown. Each card you play moves those timers forward or backward, letting you control when foes act. There are no turns or mana, so timing each card is crucial to prevent the party from being overwhelmed. The system rewards precise calculation; a single mistimed card can cause the whole fight to collapse. Mastery of the clock determines success against handcrafted boss encounters and varied regional foes.
- Watch enemy timers closely and plan cards that push dangerous actions further away.
- Prioritize cards that affect multiple timers when facing groups of enemies.

Deckbuilding Mechanics
All three heroes draw from a single shared deck, so every card added changes the overall draw odds. You can focus the deck around one hero’s strengths or distribute power across the party to keep everyone viable. Cards are the primary way to manipulate the combat clock, so building a balanced deck that offers both timer control and damage is essential for surviving tougher encounters.
- Test how new cards shift draw probabilities before committing to a focused build.
- Include a mix of timer‑altering and damage cards to stay flexible.

Hero & Gear Integration
Each hero has distinct playstyles, skill trees, and personal arcs. Weapons and armor are more than stat boosts; they can inject unique cards into the shared deck, directly influencing combat strategy. Choosing gear therefore becomes a dual decision: improve a hero’s stats and shape the deck’s composition, allowing the party to function as a single organism when the right pieces are layered together.
- Select gear that adds cards complementing your current deck strategy.
- Balance stat upgrades with the card effects gear provides.

Narrative & Setting
The world is fractured after ancient Laws governing life, death, and time were shattered. Survivors travel across three unique regions, recovering lost Laws while confronting an all‑seeing God who offers mischievous aid. Dialogue choices, skill checks, and the consequences of restoring Laws shape the story, leaving lasting scars that become part of the player’s narrative experience.
- Consider the narrative impact of each Law you restore; it may attract divine attention.
- Explore dialogue options to uncover hidden aspects of the world’s decay.
