About Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution
Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution returns the series to a 2D side‑scrolling action‑adventure format after twenty years of development. The story follows Shantae as she opposes pirate Risky Boots, whose plan to rotate the continent forces towns onto the coast for easy plundering.
The game adds terrain‑shifting mechanics, six belly‑dance transformations, and a four‑player versus Battle Mode. It runs on Windows with full controller support, Steam achievements, cloud saves, and family sharing.
01 / THE GUIDE
Terrain Shifting
Players can manipulate the Front Yard and Back Yard playfields, rotating and swapping layers to open fresh routes. This mechanic creates new paths through scrambled towns, crypts, and labyrinths, requiring spatial reasoning to align platforms and avoid hazards.
Shifting is essential for exploration because it can reveal hidden collectables and alter enemy placement. By rotating layers, players may expose previously blocked shortcuts or create safe zones for combat, making each area dynamic.
- Observe the alignment of both layers before shifting; small rotations often open hidden paths.
- After a shift, pause briefly to scan for new enemy positions before proceeding.

Transformations
Shantae can perform belly‑dance moves to assume six creature forms, including monkey, elephant, and crab. Each form grants a distinct ability that expands combat options and traversal possibilities beyond the standard hair‑whip.
Each form offers its own movement and abilities, and certain obstacles or puzzle solutions may call for a particular transformation.
- Test each transformation in a safe area to learn its movement and attack range.
- Match a creature’s strength to the obstacle you face; for example, use the elephant for heavy barriers.

Four‑Player Battle Mode
For the first time, Shantae offers a competitive four‑player versus mode where participants face off on a shared or split screen. Each player must use a controller, emphasizing local multiplayer interaction.
Battle Mode lets players compete using the game's combat abilities in a competitive setting.
- Arrange controllers so each player has clear access, reducing input overlap on shared screens.
- Watch opponents’ transformation choices; counter‑play can be built around their selected forms.

Collectibles and Upgrades
Throughout towns and labyrinths, players can locate collectables and purchase upgrades from in‑game shops. These items improve Shantae’s abilities, aiding both exploration and combat.
Shops offer upgrades that aid exploration and combat, and collectables can be found while visiting towns and meeting friends like Rottytops, Sky, and Bolo.
- After major exploration runs, revisit shops to see newly offered upgrades.
- Keep a simple list of collectable locations to ensure none are missed after terrain shifts.

Platform Features
Shantae Advance runs on Windows and supports full controller use, including DualShock and DualSense devices. Steam integration adds achievements, cloud saves, and family sharing, providing standard PC‑platform conveniences.
Steam Cloud synchronizes save data across Windows PCs linked to the same account, while family sharing lets multiple accounts access the game on a single installation. These features operate independently of the core gameplay.
- Enable Steam Cloud in the client settings to keep saves synchronized between computers.
- Use family sharing to let household members launch the game without separate purchases.
