About Serious Sam Classics: Revolution

Serious Sam Classics: Revolution combines the original First Encounter and Second Encounter campaigns into a single free upgrade for owners of those Steam titles. It runs on an updated Serious Engine 1 with 64‑bit support, modern shader capabilities and full Steamworks integration.

The release adds eight new campaign maps set in Ancient Egypt, Mayan Civilization, the Persian Empire and Medieval Europe, introduces extra enemies and two weapons from the Warped mod, and provides several multiplayer modes plus a full‑featured level editor.

01 / THE GUIDE

Campaign Maps & Environments

Revolution supplies eight brand‑new campaign maps that depict Ancient Egypt, Mayan Civilization, the Persian Empire and Medieval Europe. These maps sit alongside the classic levels, preserving the series’ fast‑paced arena design while offering new visual themes.

All new maps are rendered with the updated Serious Engine 1, which adds advanced graphics shader support and full 64‑bit compatibility. The result is richer lighting and texture detail without altering the core gameplay flow.

  • Compare the lighting on the Egyptian map with the original desert level to see shader differences.
  • Observe how terrain elevation on the Mayan map influences line‑of‑sight for long‑range weapons.

Enemy Variety

The game retains classic foes such as the Beheaded Kamikaze, Sirian Werebull and Kleer Skeleton, and adds forgotten enemies that were lost in time. Three of Mental’s fiercest generals appear as boss encounters, expanding the enemy roster.

New enemies increase visual diversity while maintaining the series’ hallmark of overwhelming numbers. Each enemy type follows the arcade‑style pattern of rapid spawns that defines Serious Sam’s combat.

  • Watch the attack patterns of the new enemies to note any visual differences.
  • Identify which generals rely on melee attacks versus ranged attacks for basic strategy.

Weapons & Power‑Ups

Revolution ships the classic arsenal—Double Shotgun, Minigun, Sniper Rifle and Cannon—plus the Plasmagun and Minelayer from the Warped mod. These weapons appear as power‑ups during play and can be switched at any time.

The expanded selection offers both rapid‑fire and high‑damage options, matching the frantic arcade style of the series while keeping each weapon’s core function as described in the source.

  • Experiment with the Double Shotgun and Minigun to compare fire rates.
  • Try the Plasmagun and Minelayer in separate runs to see how each feels.

Multiplayer Modes

Beyond classic Deathmatch and Scorematch, Revolution adds Team Deathmatch, Capture‑the‑Flag and Control Zone, plus a new Survival game mode. Online and local split‑screen co‑op and versus play are supported, providing both cooperative and competitive experiences.

Full Steamworks integration supplies server browsing, achievements, leaderboards and stats, allowing players to track performance and compare results with the community.

  • Test split‑screen co‑op to see how map layout affects teamwork.
  • Check the leaderboards after a Survival run to gauge your standing.

Level Editing Tools

Revolution includes the full Serious Editor and Serious Modeler, enabling players to create custom levels, mods, textures and other content. These tools are integrated with Steam Workshop for easy sharing with the community.

The fully featured Serious Editor lets players create levels, mods, textures and other content, giving creators broad tools for building custom material.

  • Start with a simple layout to learn basic editor functions before adding complex geometry.
  • Export your creation to the Workshop to see how other players adapt it.
