About Scythe: Digital Edition
Scythe: Digital Edition transports players to an alternate 1920s Europa still scarred by the Great War. Five distinct factions—Saxony Empire, Crimean Khanate, Rusviet Union, Polania Republic, and Nordic Kingdom—vie for wealth and power using giant factory‑built Mechs. Players explore, recruit, and expand their territories while managing asymmetric resources and secret objectives. The game blends strategic engine‑building with deterministic combat, offering both solo and multiplayer modes across Windows and macOS.
01 / THE GUIDE
Faction Asymmetry
Each faction begins with unique resources such as energy, coins, combat sense, and popularity, as well as a distinct starting location. This asymmetry shapes early decisions and long‑term strategies, ensuring no two games feel identical.
A secret objective card further differentiates play, giving every player a hidden goal that influences their actions throughout the match.
- Consider your faction’s starting resources when planning early expansion.
- Use your secret objective to guide mid‑game priorities.
02 / THE GUIDE
Engine Building
Players can improve construction abilities, build structures, and enlist recruits to boost efficiency. These upgrades create a sense of progression and enable larger resource yields over time.
The order in which economic and technological upgrades are pursued adds variety, even when replaying the same faction.
- Balance resource gathering with technology upgrades for steady growth.
- Prioritize structures that complement your faction’s strengths.

03 / THE GUIDE
Combat Resolution
Combat in Scythe is resolved by player choice rather than dice or random cards, removing luck from battles. Decisions about Mech deployment and troop placement determine outcomes.
Since no chance is involved, careful planning and knowledge of opponent capabilities become crucial.
- Study opponent positions before committing Mechs.
- Reserve combat sense for decisive engagements.
04 / THE GUIDE
Multiplayer Modes
Scythe supports both online PvP and shared/split‑screen PvP, allowing friends to compete locally or over the internet. Steam features such as Achievements and Trading Cards track progress.
Remote Play Together and Family Sharing extend accessibility, letting players join sessions without each owning a copy.
- Use Remote Play Together for quick local sessions with friends.
- Check Steam Achievements to gauge mastery of each faction.
