About Schism

Schism thrusts you into a dystopian future where the planet is buried under trash and the only power source, the Schismatic Engine, is missing. As a prisoner who crashes on the tallest garbage mountain, you must locate the Engine with a replica and a gun, navigating a top‑down, action‑roguelike world filled with stats, relics, weapons, and divine boons.

01 / THE GUIDE

Story Premise

The far future is depicted as a world blanketed in garbage, lacking its sole power source, the Schismatic Engine. You play a prisoner whose ship crashes, leaving you armed only with a cheap replica of the Engine and a cheaper gun.

Your goal is to find the real Engine; success grants freedom, while survival hints at further challenges beyond the main narrative.

  • Observe environmental storytelling for clues about the Engine’s location.
  • Consider the narrative tone when choosing how aggressively to explore.

Stats and Leveling

Players can invest in eight main stats as they level up, complemented by a large number of secondary stats. This system provides deep customization for combat and survivability.

Stat allocation directly influences how you handle the game’s chaotic RNG and powerful bosses, allowing varied playstyles.

  • Balance primary and secondary stats to avoid over‑specialization.
  • Experiment with different stat builds after each run for fresh experiences.

Relics, Weapons, and Mods

The game offers over 230 relics that provide synergistic effects, alongside more than 60 weapons ranging from practical to insane. Special weapon mods apply to all carried weapons, expanding tactical options.

Collecting relics and experimenting with weapon mods can dramatically alter combat dynamics, especially against bosses.

  • Pair relics with weapon mods that complement your stat focus.
  • Test weapon combos in early rooms before tackling tougher enemies.

04 / THE GUIDE

Gods and Boons

There are 26 Gods that must be appeased, each granting unique boons when favored. These divine benefits can shift the balance of a run.

Managing relationships with multiple Gods adds a strategic layer, as different boons suit different builds.

  • Track which Gods reward your current build and prioritize them.
  • Avoid over‑committing to a single deity to keep options open.

05 / THE GUIDE

Color‑Matched Dodge Mechanic

Inspired by Ikaruga, Schism lets you dodge colored bullets by matching their frequency. This timing‑based defense requires attention to bullet hue.

Mastering the color‑matched dodge is essential for surviving chaotic bullet patterns and powerful boss attacks.

  • Practice recognizing bullet colors in low‑risk areas first.
  • Combine dodge timing with weapon fire for smoother flow.
