About Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space
Sam & Max: Beyond Time and Space is a remastered collection of the second season of the Freelance Police adventure. The five episodes follow Sam, a six‑foot canine detective, and Max, a hyperkinetic rabbit‑thing, as they chase a Santa showdown, a volcanic crisis, a Euro‑trash vampire and a string of oddball mysteries.
The remake upgrades lighting, lip‑sync, cinematography, audio and adds eight new jazz tracks, delivering HD graphics and richer sound while preserving the original humor and puzzle‑centric gameplay.

Story and Characters
The narrative moves from the North Pole to the Fountain of Youth, outer space and Hell, linking each case into a larger, bizarre plot. Sam and Max act as the Freelance Police, confronting Santa Claus, a giant volcano, a Euro‑trash vampire and other eccentric figures.
Supporting characters such as shopkeeper Bosco, diner owner Stinky, and neighbor Sybil Pandemik provide comedic dialogue that often contains clues for the brain‑tickling puzzles scattered throughout the episodes.
- Listen for jokes that reference objects in the environment; they frequently hint at puzzle solutions.
- Track recurring names and locations, as they can reappear in later episodes and provide context.

Remastered Visuals & Audio
Lighting, lip‑sync, cinematography and high‑definition graphics have been overhauled, bringing the original episodes up to modern visual standards. The updated audio includes remastered sound effects and eight new musical tracks performed by live jazz musicians.
These enhancements make set pieces—such as dancing zombies, a giant battle robot, or a mariachi‑filled street—feel more vivid, reinforcing the comedic tone without altering gameplay mechanics.
- Set your display to its native resolution to fully appreciate the new lighting effects.
- Enable subtitles if you want to catch every joke while the jazz soundtrack plays.

Contextual Hint System
When the game detects inactivity on a puzzle, it offers a subtle hint. Players can adjust hint frequency, allowing newcomers to receive more assistance and veterans to limit prompts.
The system operates internally; no external walkthrough is required, keeping the adventure self‑contained while still offering help when needed.
- Start with a low hint frequency to test your problem‑solving, then raise it if you encounter a roadblock.
- Remember that hints appear only after the game registers a pause on a specific puzzle.

Driving Mini‑Games
Optional segments let you drive Sam & Max’s 1960 DeSoto convertible. These diversions break from the main story but retain the same visual style and humor.
Decals and car upgrades earned during these drives persist across episodes, providing a visual record of progress in the driving segments.
- Collect upgrades early; they remain visible in later driving sections.
- Experiment with different decal combinations for a personalized look.
