About RUNNING TRAIN | 走ル列車!
Running Train puts you in the operator’s cabin on two handcrafted 40 km Japanese lines – the Coastal Hayamori Railway and the Rural Kofuku Railway. Each route follows its own operational pattern and features semi‑realistic physics together with built‑in safety systems such as Vigilance and Automatic Train Stop.
The game offers a range of modes, from score‑focused hard‑mode variants that hide UI elements to a relaxed free‑roam mode where an AI driver runs the train. A livery editor, photo mode, full controller support, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing round out the experience.
01 / THE GUIDE
Routes & Operators
Two fictional operators each control a 40 km route: Coastal Hayamori Railway and Rural Kofuku Railway. Both routes are fully detailed and include more than 40 diagrams for local and express services across morning, afternoon and night periods.
Seasonal settings let you switch between Sakura Spring and Snowy Winter, changing the visual environment while you travel from station to station and follow each line’s distinct operational pattern.
- Begin on the Coastal line to get used to longer straight sections before tackling the Rural line’s tighter curves.
- Toggle the season in the settings to practice under both blossom‑filled and snow‑covered scenery.

Train Types & Physics
Four train types are provided, each with its own characteristic handling. The motion model blends semi‑realistic physics with arcade‑style control, allowing precise handling without demanding simulation depth.
Implemented safety systems include Vigilance alerts and Automatic Train Stop, which respond when speed limits are exceeded or signals are missed, adding a layer of operational discipline.
- Try each train in free‑roam to see which handling style matches your comfort level.
- Watch Vigilance alerts; they give early warning before the Automatic Train Stop engages.

Game Modes
The game provides a standard scoring mode, a hard‑mode that removes UI elements, a No‑Speedometer variant, and a free‑roam mode where an AI driver operates the train, letting you enjoy scenery as a passenger or trainspotter.
Hard‑mode challenges players to achieve higher scores without visual aids, while free‑roam removes scoring pressure entirely, offering a relaxed way to explore the routes.
- Activate Hard‑Mode after you are comfortable with basic controls to test your memory of signals.
- Use free‑roam to view the environment without worrying about safety system penalties.

Customization & Photo Mode
An open‑texture livery editor lets you design custom train skins, which appear on your train during any mode. This supports personal expression while you drive or observe the route.
Photo mode captures the scenic environments, allowing you to frame trains against Sakura Spring blossoms or Snowy Winter backdrops for creative snapshots.
- Use high‑contrast colors in your livery to keep the train visible against seasonal backgrounds.
- Capture images during sunrise or sunset for dramatic lighting effects.
