About Rome: Total War - Collection

Rome: Total War™ – Collection bundles the original Rome: Total War with its official Barbarian Invasion expansion, delivering a century‑spanning strategy experience. Players guide a Roman family through economic, civil, religious and military management while confronting rival factions and invading barbarian hordes.

The package supports both single‑player and multiplayer modes, lets you command legions and barbarian forces, and features cinematic battles with thousands of soldiers on screen. Historic figures such as Julius Caesar, Spartacus and Hannibal appear, and the expansion lets you lay siege against the Romans as Attila the Hun, the Saxons, or other savage factions.

Campaign Structure

The base campaign follows a century‑long quest for one of three noble Roman families to seize control of the empire. Success requires balancing economic, civil, religious and military responsibilities across a growing territory.

Barbarian Invasion adds a decline phase in which barbarian hordes attack, creating a bitter internal struggle between rival Roman factions. This expansion shifts the focus toward defense and survival as the empire weakens.

  • Track each family’s progress across the century timeline.
  • Watch the map for incoming barbarian movements.

Historical Leaders

Players can fight alongside or against iconic figures such as Julius Caesar, Spartacus and Hannibal while working to expand or destroy the Roman Empire. Each leader represents a distinct force within the campaign narrative.

Barbarian Invasion lets you take the side of invaders such as Attila the Hun and the Saxons, who bring signature weapons and abilities that contrast with Roman legions, providing varied combat encounters.
