01 / THE GUIDE
Imperial Succession
More than 30 classes covering various professions and races are available, each with favored weapons, unique abilities, and distinct tactics. Any eligible character can be chosen as the next Emperor, becoming the new protagonist for the following generation.
When a new Emperor is appointed, inheritance magic transfers the knowledge and abilities of previous rulers to the successor, creating a lasting bond between the player’s lineage and the characters they recruit.
- Review each candidate’s class strengths before appointing a new Emperor.
- Consider how inheritance magic will preserve useful abilities across generations.

Free‑Form Scenario
The story reacts to player choices, offering varied narrative experiences based on how the empire is expanded and the order in which the Seven Heroes are challenged. Actions and decisions dramatically alter the Emperor’s journey.
Because the structure is non‑linear, different objectives unlock distinct events and outcomes, encouraging players to experiment with expansion routes and hero‑facing priorities.
- Plan expansion routes early to influence story branches.
- Experiment with the order of hero battles to discover alternate events.

Combat System
Battles use a turn‑based timeline system that builds on the original mechanics. Glimmers allow characters to learn new abilities during combat, while Formations grant bonuses based on party composition.
The United Attack feature lets retinue members perform combination attacks, adding a strategic layer that can shift battle momentum when timed correctly.
- Mix classes to maximize Formation bonuses.
- Trigger United Attacks when enemies are vulnerable for greater impact.

Original 2D pixel sprites are rebuilt as full 3D models while preserving their classic appearance, based on Tomomi Kobayashi’s concept art. Towns and dungeons feature reworked terrains and layouts.
All event scenes include full Japanese and English voice acting, and the soundtrack can be toggled between original and new arrangements from the Options screen.
- Switch music versions in Options to match your mood.
- Choose the voice language that best fits your preference.

Difficulty Settings
Three difficulty levels—Casual, Normal, and Hard (Classic)—are available. Casual emphasizes story with reduced battle focus, Normal offers a balanced experience for veteran RPG players, and Hard replicates the original’s brutal challenge.
The selected difficulty determines the overall combat intensity and how much emphasis is placed on narrative progression, allowing players to choose the level that matches their preferred playstyle from the start.
- Begin on Casual to learn core mechanics before moving to Normal.
- Select Hard only after mastering Glimmers and United Attacks.
