About Rock of Ages
Rock of Ages mixes fast boulder‑rolling action with strategic castle defense, set against five historic art and music periods. Players launch a giant boulder to crush the opponent’s tower while placing defensive units to protect their own.
Developed by ACE Team, the title offers single‑player and multiple multiplayer options, including online PvP, split‑screen PvP and co‑op. Steam integration adds achievements, leaderboards, cloud saves and family sharing, and the original soundtrack ships free with the download.
01 / THE GUIDE
Core Gameplay
The central mechanic is steering an enormous boulder toward the enemy castle to break its defenses. At the same time, players can deploy a variety of defensive units to block incoming attacks and disrupt the opponent’s boulder.
Success relies on timing the boulder launch, choosing defensive pieces that suit the current level, and reacting to the opponent’s moves. The interplay of offense and defense creates a back‑and‑forth battle that rewards both quick reflexes and planning.
- Try different defensive unit types to see which block boulders most reliably.
- Watch the opponent’s launch pattern early to improve your own timing.

Game Modes
Rock of Ages provides three distinct modes: War, Time Trial, and SkeeBoulder. War pits two players against each other in a traditional match, Time Trial sets a time limit for achieving objectives, and SkeeBoulder focuses on high‑score play.
All modes share the same boulder‑rolling and defensive mechanics but differ in objectives and pacing, giving players varied ways to experience the core action.
- Use Time Trial to practice rapid boulder launches under pressure.
- Play SkeeBoulder when you want a relaxed session focused on scoring.

Multiplayer Options
The game supports online PvP, split‑screen PvP and co‑op play, allowing friends to compete or collaborate either over the internet or on a shared display. Shared and split‑screen modes let two players use the same screen.
Each multiplayer match retains the same strategic depth as single‑player, with participants managing both offense and defense simultaneously.
- Test split‑screen to see how screen size influences boulder control.
- Coordinate with a co‑op partner to balance offensive rolls and defensive placement.

Art and Music
Five historic periods inspire the visual style and soundtrack, giving each level a distinct aesthetic and musical theme. The art ranges from ancient motifs to modern designs, while the music reflects the era portrayed.
This thematic variety creates an immersive atmosphere, making each match feel fresh despite using the same core mechanics. The original soundtrack is included for free with the game download.
- Notice how the music shifts with each historic period for added immersion.
- Appreciate the visual differences to keep matches visually engaging.
