About Road to Vostok

Road to Vostok is a hardcore single‑player survival title set in a post‑apocalyptic border zone between Finland and Russia. Players start in Area 05, scavenge shelters and traders, and decide when to risk the guarded Border Zone.

The game features realistic FPS mechanics, physics‑based loot, a 24‑hour day/night cycle, dynamic weather, seasonal changes, and a permadeath region called Vostok where death erases all gear. Shelters serve as the only save points and can be fully customized.

01 / THE GUIDE

Area 05 Start Zone

Area 05 is an evacuated southeastern Finnish region that provides shelters, traders, tasks, and initial loot. It is the first safe area where players gather equipment before heading east.

Hostile bandits frequently interrupt the calm, forcing players to balance looting with combat. The zone’s resources and trader services lay the groundwork for later travel.

  • Visit each trader early to learn bartering values.
  • Scout multiple shelters to have backup save points.

02 / THE GUIDE

Border Zone Crossing

The Border Zone separates Finland from Russia and contains guarded crossing points with mines, obstacles, or waterways. Guards are armed, corrupt, and may call in air support.

Crossing requires preparation; each point presents unique challenges, so players must choose routes that match their gear and risk tolerance.

  • Map the crossing point before attempting to avoid mines.
  • Carry a quiet weapon to reduce guard attention.

03 / THE GUIDE

Vostok Permadeath Zone

Vostok lies beyond the Border Zone and is controlled by the Military faction, which uses heavy weapons and armored vehicles. It holds the highest‑value loot in the game.

Every Vostok map is a permadeath map: death results in losing all carried and stored items, unlike Area 05 or the Border Zone where only carried gear is lost.

  • Enter Vostok only after securing ample supplies and armor.
  • Use stealth to avoid direct confrontations with Military units.

04 / THE GUIDE

Dynamic Environment

The game simulates a 24‑hour day/night cycle, randomized weather, and seasonal shifts from summer to winter. Lighting, thunder, and even northern lights change over time.

Players can manipulate time by sleeping, but must often prepare for darkness and weather effects that influence visibility and movement.

  • Sleep before nightfall to avoid low‑visibility encounters.
  • Carry warm clothing when the season shifts to winter.

05 / THE GUIDE

Shelter Customization

Shelters act as safe zones and the only way to save progress. Each shelter varies in size and can be unlocked via keys earned from trader tasks.

Inside a shelter, a decoration mode lets players move, rotate, and place furniture and individual items; all physics‑based placements persist after exiting.

  • Organize items in furniture containers for quick access during raids.
  • Upgrade shelter size through trader tasks to increase storage capacity.

    QUICK ANSWERS

    Road to Vostok FAQ

How does death differ between Area 05, the Border Zone, and Vostok?

In Area 05 and the Border Zone you lose only the gear you are carrying; in Vostok death causes loss of all equipment and stored items.

What currency does the game use?

The game uses a pure bartering system; traders value items based on post‑apocalyptic usefulness rather than money.

Can the season be changed during a playthrough?

Yes, the world shifts from summer to winter over time, and you can also select a constant summer or winter mode at the start.
