About Retrograde Arena
Retrograde Arena is a twin‑stick multiplayer shooter where bullets don’t kill directly; instead, players use weapon recoil to launch their customizable Drone through neon‑lit maps. Mastering propulsion, weapon nuances, and arena layouts is essential for victory against friends, strangers, or AI.
The game supports up to six players online, four locally via split‑screen, and offers three core modes—King of the Crown, Supersizer, and Last Drone Standing—each demanding different tactics. Early Access promises additional modes, while free‑to‑play access lets anyone jump into the physics‑driven chaos.
01 / THE GUIDE
Physics‑Based Propulsion
Weapons generate recoil that can be harnessed to move the Drone at high speed, letting players dodge attacks or close gaps instantly. Skilled use of recoil also lets you body‑slam foes or launch pieces of scenery as projectiles.
Because damage comes from environmental impact rather than bullets, positioning and timing of thrust become the primary survival tools. Learning how each weapon’s kickback interacts with map geometry is key to staying alive.
- Experiment with different weapons to feel how recoil varies in strength and direction.
- Use walls or obstacles to redirect recoil for sharper turns.

Multiplayer Modes
Three modes define the competitive experience: King of the Crown centers on claiming the crown, Supersizer pits players against giant monster drones, and Last Drone Standing tests endurance against a relentless onslaught. Each mode emphasizes distinct strategies.
All modes support online, LAN, or local split‑screen play for up to six participants, with each PC handling up to four controllers. The variety ensures that teams can mix skill sets and adapt to differing objectives.
- Coordinate with teammates to cover objectives that change quickly, such as the crown.
- In Supersizer, focus on crowd‑control weapons to manage the giant drone’s attacks.

Arsenal of Weapons
Weapons differ in area of effect, ricochet, reflection, and brute force, giving each a moment to shine. Some excel at pushing the Drone, while others excel at breaking scenery or deflecting enemy fire.
Understanding each weapon’s unique property lets you choose the right tool for a given arena or mode, whether you need rapid thrust, defensive reflection, or raw impact to shatter obstacles.
- Match weapon type to arena quirks—for example, use ricochet weapons in tight corridors.
- Try different weapons across matches to adapt to changing enemy tactics.

Diverse Arenas and Layouts
Each arena features its own layout and unique quirks, such as movable switches, tight corridors, or deadly corners. These elements require players to adjust navigation tactics and weapon usage on the fly.
Manipulating switches to move important pieces of scenery adds a layer of strategic depth beyond pure shooting. Learning each map’s shortcuts and hazards improves survivability.
- Identify switch locations early to control movable scenery.
- Practice drifting around corners to avoid being cornered.

Drone Customization
Players can unlock and select textures, thrusters, and particle effects to personalize their Drone’s appearance. Customization lets you personalize your Drone’s look with unlockable textures, thrusters, and particle effects.
Choosing a look you enjoy can boost confidence and make it easier to track your Drone amid the neon chaos, especially in fast‑paced multiplayer matches.
- Pick high‑contrast colors to keep your Drone visible during hectic fights.
- Experiment with different thruster styles to find a visual cue you like.
