About Retrocycles

Retrocycles puts you behind an unstoppable vehicle that constantly leaves a lethal trail. In the basic arena you can only make sudden right‑angle turns, and the last player alive wins, creating fast‑paced matches that focus on reflexes.

The game offers four built‑in modes, split‑screen for up to four local players, and extensive server‑side customization. Community servers add variants such as Racing, Capture the Flag, Mazes, and a rogue‑style RPG, keeping the experience fresh across Windows, macOS, and Linux.

01 / THE GUIDE

Core Gameplay

Each vehicle moves continuously and cannot stop, laying down a deadly trail that eliminates anyone who touches it. Players are limited to abrupt right‑angle turns, which forces quick directional decisions in a confined arena.

Matches can be played online or offline; the offline option pits you against bots, while online games host at least sixteen participants per server. The simple rule set creates a chaotic chase where survival depends on timing and positioning.

  • Watch opponents' turn patterns to anticipate where their trail will intersect yours.
  • Stay near the arena centre early to keep multiple turning options open.

02 / THE GUIDE

Fortress Mode

Fortress Mode divides players into two teams, each controlling a Fortress Zone. Teams must defend their own zone while attempting to capture the enemy's zone.

Victory is achieved by conquering the enemy team's Fortress while defending your own. Team coordination and balanced offense‑defense tactics are essential for success.

  • Assign a dedicated defender to guard your Fortress entrance.
  • Rotate players between attacking and defending to maintain pressure on the enemy.

Sumo Mode

In Sumo Mode a shrinking circle defines the safe area. Players must remain inside the circle; stepping outside results in elimination.

The last player remaining inside the circle wins. Positioning and awareness of the shrink timer become critical as the playable space contracts.

  • Stay near the edge of the circle early to avoid being trapped later.
  • Watch the shrinking circle and plan a move toward the centre before space disappears.

Customization & Server Variety

Server owners can tweak virtually every gameplay variable—speed, map size, trail length, timeouts, and even the right‑angle turn rule—allowing a wide range of experiences from fast races to prolonged survival.

Although the game lacks an in‑game map editor, custom maps are supported and many community servers host modes such as Racing, Capture the Flag, Mazes, and a rogue‑style RPG variant.

  • Try a server that has altered turn rules for a fresh challenge.
  • Explore community‑hosted custom maps to experience different layouts.

05 / THE GUIDE

Offline & Split‑Screen Play

Retrocycles includes an offline single‑player mode where you race against bots, providing practice without an internet connection.

Split‑screen multiplayer supports up to four local players on the same device, letting friends share the core mechanics in a single room.

  • Use bot matches to refine turn timing before joining online servers.
  • Arrange keyboards comfortably for four‑player split‑screen, taking advantage of the customizable layout.
