01 / THE GUIDE
Attitude‑Based Gameplay
Every conflict can be resolved through melee, ranged, or area attacks, or by influencing mood with cheers, charms, compliments, insults, taunts, and humiliation. Mood is highlighted as a core element that determines which approach succeeds.
The system encourages players to consider personality and strategy, as the same encounter may be won by combat or by speech depending on the crew’s attitude.
- Observe how opponents react to different mood actions to choose the most efficient resolution.
- Mix aggressive and diplomatic actions within a crew to keep options open during encounters.

Crew Composition
Players select three experts from a pool of twenty, each classified as either a Fighter or a Speaker. Fighters excel in aggressive actions, while Speakers can resolve tactical conflicts using speech actions.
Choosing the right mix influences how you can approach battles and mood challenges, directly tying crew roles to gameplay outcomes.
- Balance fighters and speakers to handle both combat and speech scenarios.
- Experiment with different expert combinations to discover synergistic abilities.

Managing these four currencies is essential for progressing toward your chosen reputation path, whether focused on science, wealth, or influence.
- Prioritize gathering Insight and Research if aiming for a scientific reputation.
- Accumulate Gold early to ensure you can fund longer expeditions.
